:D You rotter! I was enjoying the peace and quiet.

But I'm just nipping onto the Quanas webste to book her a ticket back to Oz; with your poorly toe, your need is clearly greater than mine and I mustn't be selfish..........:rotfl:

GQ, I've seen your finances, you couldn't afford a ticket with Qantas any more than I could :p. And you know in any case after the flight back, she's banned with all the major airlines (the things she did to that steward boggle the mind).

No, I'm sorry, you created the monster, you'll have to make room for her.

What else was i going to chip in with? Oh yes, shopping trolleys. I bought myself a cheapo £15 one in case I was too embarassed to use it. It seems I have no shame and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I am a few months off the big 50 so not ancient and, like GQ, cannot see the point in lugging heavy bags and it means I can make the most of Home Barga!ns and £land deals. I have seen a groovy bright yellow vinyl trolley with a huuuuge smiley face on - regrettably it was in Paris and the shop was shut, but I am hoping to be there again in the summer so can't promise i won't grace Eurostar with a rather unusual souvenir!

I thought about using my cheapy one to cart the gear I'm going to need for Glastonbury but I have nowhere to store the trolley once the tent is up - from photos of past years there isn't room to swing the proverbial cat. I'm not even sure there'll be room for my Kelly Kettle.

DD used mine to cart her stuff to Reading and it did very well - very cheap ikea one. However it did not make it back but then neither did her tent or sleeping bag as they were trolly muddy. Have you checked that you will be allowed to take a camping kettle to Glastonbury as all some festivals ban these items?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

It seems to be a tradition at Reading Festival to leave everything behind, some people make a fortune collecting them, cleaning them & selling them on eBay.

My trolley is in the under stairs cupboard filled with family shoes and hats/gloves/scarves! Hardly OS eh?

I'm onto it monnagran, spent last two hours searching for part time positions. One struck my eye - family liaison worker working with looked after children and their parents. No qualification or experience needed as full level three training is given so hoping with my experience and qual in childcare plus OU modules in psychology might at least get me an interview. Here's hoping. I won't get time off for interview so I will have to walk if it happens.

Also looking at supermarket positions but they aren't easy to find. DH is on board and says the same as you all, look for dinner nanny/cleaning positions for now.

Do you know if I'm still on a temporary contract do I have to work a notice period?

Is there a contract and what does it say?
If not, was something indicated verbally?
Is there a precedent - i.e. has someone left whilst you have been there? were they on a temporary contract?

Is there a staff handbook - paper or online - which might have that information?
Did you do an induction and was it indicated there?

If there is still no answer then it will probably come down to what is reasonable - I would guess a week is fair.

I am not knowledgeable on Employment law, but do have some knowledge on contract law and the above is the line I would take in these circumstances.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

All my info is at work so ill have to get it on Mon.

All I know is that the girl before me had a job interview, asked to put a days holiday in for it, was refused and just left. I know that 8 people have left the role I'm doing in the past year but their circumstances I don't know about. I will be going in on Monday and intend on keeping on keeping on but if I'm shouted at, it will be very difficult to not walk out of that building there and then.

    Thanks vjsmum
  • Morning Toughies, another nice bright day here but decidedly cooler and with a stiff breeze. I have decided that this year I am going to maximise on all the home produce and try to put as much of it into storage in various ways as I can. I have purchased some foil freezer containers and am going to make rhubarb crumbles in 2 portion sizes, cooked rhubarb and uncooked crumble topping, as the plants are ready to harvest. I am also going to make rhubarb and ginger jam this weekend and some leeks in cheese sauce to go into the freezer to use up the late ones. I want us to eat well next winter and I'm sure prices will only keep going up.

FUDDLE morning pet, good decision to look for something else jobwise, something to give you a bit more easing in life and let you have some home time too, without being shattered all the time. Glad that Mr Fuddle is on board with that too, hope something comes along very soon for you.

I'm off on the omnibus for a visit to Mr.M this morning to find some bargainous things and looking forward to the ride which takes just over an hour but goes through some pretty places and then along the coast for a bit, should be nice, catch up with you all later, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Have you thought of trying on freecycle for a fridge for supergran?
:) Have tried, but to no avail. It's complicated by the fact that I have no transport, although SG has a small and rather unreliable hatchback, and is highly-resistant to the idea of Freecycle.

She's a retired nurse and is more than a little OCD (IMO, anyway, and I'm not a grubby mare) and doesn't like the idea of 2nd hand stuff. I tell her when I see fridges in the few c.s. around here which are set up to sell refurbished electricals, but she doesn't rise to the bait. She has relatives who'd help her out if she would unbend her pride enough to ask.

SG is a great woman but she's as stubborn as all-get-out at times.

Softstuff, although I'm not exactly flush in the old finances, I would be willing to take out a loan to fund Nursie's return to the Antipodes. Last night my faithful yellow companion, Henri d'Vac, lost his cheeky grin for the first time ever and is now sobbing dusty tears in the cupboard which he shares with Nursie when she's in residence.

He's so upset that I may have to treat him to a new vac bag* as a consolation, but it would be better if I could raise hope in his little motorised heart by saying that Nursie wasn't coming home any time soon.

    * Actually, that would be profligate and un-MSE; I shall undo the end of the paper vac bag, empty it, staple and tape over with gaffer tape as per usual.

Right, better get ready to hit the streets as I have some bargainous things to do with vouchers and 2-for-1s here and there. Sky is picturebook perfect blue with fluffy white clouds.

ETA; fuddle, I once started a job on 1st July. I was the 7th person in that role in 7 months and by the end of the first day I knew why the others had bolted. Stuck it for two months, and that was two longer than I should have done.

GQ, tugging on my heart strings for Henrys sake will not work. Miles (my Dyson) is still snivelling in my cupboard just at the memory of her. I'm sorry, but if you want to send her somewhere, Australia does not welcome her.

Try the Germans. I'm sure the Greeks would forward you the cash to send her to help the government there.

  • Ladies of the Nursie fan club I may have the solution??? In these financially straitened times would it be possible for you both to band together and each pay half the Nursie fare to somewhere in the middle (of the UK and Australasia that is) and arrange for quarrantine there before finding her a new keeper, sorry employer? The only downside to this as an idea is that without either of you to keep the reins tight she may well become the next world dominating tyrant to emerge on the scene, however, I'm sure she would be benevolent if strict!!!
