Morning all - hope you are all well.
Little Miss Stiltwalker is still in bed this morning - I think she must be having a growth spurt as she is unaccountably tired and very wobbly - I tried to get her up for nursery this morning but she was so wobbly and bleery I asked her if she would like to go back to bed, she was even too tired for her words, bless her, so I offered her the choice of a fresh pair of night time pants or her trousers and she picked up the pants and hugged them!
Poor little flower, it's always the way when she is growing or making progress in some other way and she is certainly making progress - somehow she has taught herself to read!! Must be a combination of cbeebies and the amount of books I've read along with her - her 1 to 1 at nursery told us she has been registering the other kids at nursery - looking to see who is in before going and finding their names to stick on the velcro board. So I have made her a Velcro board for home and yesterday put up a selection of shapes then gave her the flash cards with the shape names on and she matched all 4 to the right shapes. To say I as gobsmacked is somewhat of an understatement - we're going to have to get creative though in order to continue with this and to allow her to demonstrate this skill as it's not exactly as if she can read a book to us with any amount of clarity! I'm seeing a new mummy project happening! The velcro board is going to be a useful tool, I'm thinking we could have to nouns and verbs represented by pictures which she could match words to and then have the sentences up that she could match the pictures to but the little words are going to be a bit of a problem - any ideas welcome!!
Take care all - hugs to all in need of one, or anyone who just wants a hug!0 -
Morning all.
I have long been of the suspicion that Stuff expands to fill the space available, regardless of how much space there is.
A variant on Parkinson's Law? Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. In computer circles it's: Data expands to fill the space available for storage.
Actually, this is the reason I stopped buying big coats. I expanded to fit them :rotfl:‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Stiltwalker, what wonderful news about your DD reading. It's so exciting when you realise that they can read. I hope the extra sleep makes her feel better. We still have the glorious sunshine in the garden. Just pegged out all the towels, so hopefully someone will bring them in this evening before I get home from work.
Have a great day everyone xBSC member 137

Little Miss Stiltwalker triumphs yet again!!!!!!! My goodness HELEN she is just outstandingly wonderful in every way, what a jewel, she is as bright as a button isn't she? Trying to remember what we did with the girls and can only remember them standing in the buggy running thier fingers round the lettering on street name signs and telling me what sound the letter made. I'll talk to the teaching one this evening and see if she can remember what she found useful. What a little gem of a girlie you've raised, and you can take as much credit for it as you deserve too!!!! WELL DONE ALL OF YOU, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

She's a stunner - problem with making sounds is that most of the time she can't make the sounds clearly enough to be understood hence the need to find a work around. Thanks for asking teaching DD, it's an unconventional situation the more brains contributing to the solution the better!
Much happier and less wobbly girly after her lie in as well. X0 -

Fantastic Stiltwalker, and well done wee one ... I was another who read early - I cannot remember a time when I couldn't read, I was 2 and a half I think. It's more common than you'd think, I suspect many children go 'undiagnosed' so to speak. My son was the same.
Early reading brings such joy, choosing your own books in the library (those that have escaped closure), having a new book as a present... I amused myself with reading from a very early age, which was just as well as Mum worked so hard, there wasn't much time to spend on entertaining me.
My lovely brother bought me my first children's paperbacks one Christmas and I treasured them, from then on, books were an obvious gift choice and still are. I give a lot of books as gifts myself now.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Stiltwalker my nephew learned to read very early because of his love for Thomas the Tank Engine - does she have a great love like that where she could match pictures of the characters with their written names etc?0 -
