Ooooh Mrs L - that wind is bitter - just got my washing in from yesterday (luckily its under cover but outside) I certainly didn't linger. Been trying to get my chitted spuds in pots but I think they'll have to wait a few weeks more.
Rummaged in the freezer & found some HM Mushroom soup so we'll have that for lunch to warm us up. Got loads of the Turkey breast left so can't make up my mind what to do - Curry, Turkey & Mush Pie ....decisions, decisions!
Stay warm Toughies!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Still poorly Lyn. I have had to get to the housework today because the house is in a right mess and I can't bare to go to work knowing its still to do. DH has been doing jobs but I honestly cannot see what he's been doing! Well, I CAN see the pile of ironing that awaits me.
I am hoping to get finished so as I want to make a jam roly poly. You know when you really fancy something? I just gotta do it.
Still haven't got my grass downI'm yearning for some greenery now friends. Here's hoping it warms up in the coming weeks and it can go down. Had a little bit of bad news re: secondary schooling and this house we are lucky to rent. It's in the area for a really poor secondary school so we have to move over the bridge in order to secure eldest DD a good school place. It's not a problem but I suspect we'll be moving around Christmas again.
Sore throats. Am I right in thinking salt water will help?0 -
You can gargle with warm salt water and that might help. in the past people used sage tea to gargle with so if you had any dried sage in the herb collection you might infuse some of that in warm salty water for 10 or so minutes and that might help too but really I think paracetamol and warm drinks with honey and lemon are most likely to help a sore throat more, and if you have any hard boiled sweeties or cough sweets, sucking one of those helps your throat stay lubricated and helps with the soreness, hope you feel better soon pet, stay in the warm as much as you can, all little things but might make you feel better, Love Lyn xxx.0

Afternoon everyone
It is beeping freezing here today. I've just had to put the heating back on as I am wearing thick tights, thermal socks and fuzzy boots and still can't feel my toes.
DH has worked his way through most of the chocolate. There are personal eggs left and three lonely mini eggs in a bowl on the dining room table. He is in hurry up and wait mode at the moment as he doesn't know if he needs to go to Milton Keynes to fix a server. I'll get him to drop me off at the local Mr T on his way as my gannets have decided to drink all the milk.
Turkey stock is made and I have enough turkey left for soup and a pie later in the week. Today we'll have soup and the pudding no one wanted yesterday.
Time to get one of the remaining mini eggs and to see how many layers I can put on and still walk. Take care everyone xxxx0 -
Fuddle If you have any Soluble Aspirin gargle with that & you can swallow it! I find it's really good for sore throats & hits the spot. Then you can enjoy your Jam Roly PolySmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Thank you for the tips about sore throats, as I do tend to suffer with them.
Fuddle sorry you are still not feeling well, and also that you might have to move again. That is such a shame after everything you and your little family have been through.
Hope you feel well again soon.
Kidcat so sorry to read about the family. Mrs Lurcherwalker I too was put down so many many times by my Mother, every chance she got she did it to me, so I know how damaging that is.Do a little kindness every day.;)0 -
I'm all for salt for any mouth/throat problem, it works for everything! If you do aspirin, just make sure you've not had any other anti-inflamatory such as ibuprofen, as they're from the same class of drug.
All this stuff on parents makes me glad mine are pretty ok (so far!) indeed, I am off to see them later to discuss where I go next with life! kidcat my initial thought was to do as you said and get career sorted first, but I am seriously considering teaching, and then specialising in SEN, if I want to do this I can't train til 2014/15 at the earliest, and I would then be 28 when I finished my NQT year (assuming I could even get a job straight away) if I then wanted to have kids, I would be looking at taking a year out, then a year in, then a year out for number two (again, all plans, and we all know life doesn't fit with that a lot of the time!) which would mean I'd be out of the loop for a lot of my early years of teaching, I'd then be the person with the qualifications that weren't up to date, plus a shortage of experience to make up for that.
So, the potential plan now. Try and combine my job with some TA work, buy a house round here to get us on the ladder while the govt are feeling fairly kind to new buyers and there's a lot going up in our town (and parental help, like every other 20somethings) then try and get on the kids thing, with an aim to move to my more ideal location when they are 3 or 4. That then gives me the parental support when they are teeny, plus emergency childcare if needed, but I could still get to an area I'd rather bring them up ready for their actual lives AND that puts me where I'd rather be for teaching and work. OH also needs to get some training too, which is available to him now and would tie him to this area for about 4 years. I am not sure it can work, it seems too simple for a start, but the initial bit, kids, has got to the point where I want to go down that path and then deal with whatever comes later.
Sorry to be offloading this on you all, I am just trying to get my thoughts in order, this must be my quarter life crisis!0 -
Two hours later and DH is still on the phone trying to work out if he is going to Milton Keynes and if so, when he is going. I've called Mr T and they are open until 6pm. At some point I am going to have to bite the bullet and walk there and back. The alternative is going without tea until the milkman delivers in the morning and that is not going to be good for anyone. I know I am been a wimp, but I'm feeling a bit panicky about going out and only having to walk one way helps with that.
Ok, I can do this....I sometimes feel like the Little Engine That Could....I know I can, I know I can. There must be more than a few local people who think I'm mad as I walk around the shops talking to and reassuring myself.
Take care everyone xxx0 -
I talk to myself in the shops all the time, and it surprises me how many people don't notice, and those who do, always seem to be others who do the same thing. I guess I have no shame, when I am working I can regularly be found singing to the person I'm supporting to do their shopping!0

Afternoon All,
I agree with the advice for sore throats and hope all who have them are soon feeling well.
Going to go out into the cold soon and have a quick walk around the supermarket...where else is there to go on such a cold day and with the buses finishing between 6pm-7pm(sunday service)
Feeling pensive with all the bad news that will affect many announced today, I don't want to know but need to.
Whilst I feel like making the effort and have an appetite I have(and its been ages since I had any)I have made some HM mashed potato with added swede and plan to heat it in the microwave(saves energy and time)should be safe after all you can buy ready meals that are cooked that way.
I have a YS chicken breast already cooked. That did use the electric oven for 40 minutes(but I did cook two at the same time)I may add and steam them in the microwave some leeks, broccoli(sp?)carrots and cauliflower. Hopefully some gravy.
Later some ice cream and strawberries...
Hope to watch the Hairy Bikers and Paul Hollywood later...
Managed to avoid using my electric blanket or hot water bottles last night and added two extra fleece throws to the bed and was cosy. Slept reasonably well too.
I find the coldest time of day in my home is day times, evenings and through the night isn't that bad.
Anyone into their 5/2 diet might find the following interesting if you can listen online(you can download it I believe too)

If I don't talk to myself I would not hear a voice that often or use my own...I don't mind peace but that's why I like a radio on(even in the background)it really does help stop you feeling less alone as music can.
There is a programme on Radio 4 tomorrow(speaking aloud)at 4pm Word Of Mouth.
