People here buy Avon SSS by the crate for their horses lol - it does work though, if I'm outside after 4pm I put it on.

I can go for a walk with my family and my parents get bitten repeatedly and I don't at all! I don't remember the last time I was bitten by any sort of bug - 10 or 15 years ago at least.

    I do eat Marmite though!!
:T That could well be the trick. You can discourage critters from biting you by taking brewer's yeast tablets, eating Marmite, and eating a lot of garlic/ taking garlic capsules.

If I ever go back to the South Island of New Zealand, I shall pre-load my bod with enough brewer's yeast to sink a battleship. They have a kind of blackfly there in the South Island..........it gives the Scottish midge a close run for the mayhem. Bearing in mind that NZ was devoid of mammals until the Maori came, beggars me what the ancestors of these blackflies used to dine on before they had humans. And deer, and cows etc etc.

I've never bought costumes specifically for World Book Day Fuddle. Among the infants there is always a large number of Disney princesses, and the juniors a lot less of them dress up. This year I expect DD will want to be Tracy Beaker or something but she'll figure it out herself. DS won't do anything, 11 is too old for that.
So Soft has worked for me and I seem to be VERY tasty to all biting critters. The worst place ever was the Everglades in Florida. About 50 bites per leg. Never again.

Morning all, GQ I was frozen last night too, and I was snuggled up to the woodstove for most of the evening, I think it was VERY cold, so not sickening for anything just frozen!!!!!

JEM petal, it's so good to hear you chirpy again today, good on you for being the best dressed doggie walker in the country, if you feel good - you look good, that's positive thinking. Good on you girlie, well done.

FUDDLE could you train him to call you a voluptuous AMAZON instead of big bird? I now have a mental vision of you dressed up as the Sesame Street Bird in yellow feathers and matching tights, tell me I'm wrong, please!!!!!

HH Hope the little one responds quickly to the treatment, the success rate for treating this is very high these days, hope she is soon on the mend and cured.

I seem to remember that you can take one of the B Vitamin group it may be B6 that acts as a repellent and makes you both smell and taste wrong to the buzzy critters - might be worth a read up about it on the pooter if they like you particularly as prevention is always better than cure, yes?

Have a nice day everyone and stay warm if you can, I'm making curry for supper tonight as that will make us warm from the inside out, Cheers Lyn xxx.

FUDDLE you just HONKED again, thanks pet that will make me giggle all day, Love Lyn xxx.
  • I swear by Marmite! Most people think I am crazy but they are the ones getting bitten. I eat a little bit almost every day so my blood is probably 20% Marmite now! :p

I even survived a day trip in the Everglades in Florida with no bites at all! Good thing too as some of those bug repellent sprays smell awful.
  • I'm allergic to midgies - if I get them on my lips, inside my nose or by my eyes I swell up like a balloon - very attractive!! They're hellish here, although not so bad as on the island where they swarmed in black clouds. I have summer clothes that tie at wrist and ankle, and a midgie net for my head, which goes over my hat, but I rarely go out in summer after 4 unless I have to. If it's breezy it's better, and youngest advises that there are no midgies out at sea.
  • I've just had a BLACKCAP feeding on the bird table, the birds we usually have around were really hungry this morning so I fed them early, I've never seen a blackcap before let alone had one in the garden, wow what a treat, it was beautiful, a streamlined little bird like a sportscar in design compared to the others I usually get, I love them all though, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Morning everyone,

Thinking of you and your family Hester. Hopefully treatment for your nephew's little girl will be quick and effective. Keep us posted.

Sounds like yesterday was "one of those days" kidcat. Hope you have better day today - how's the cold?

Glad you got out jem and are being so positive.

I'm another one very attractive to flying tormentors and allergic to mozzie bites - come out in massive pus filled blisters. DH's isn't a target. My mum has every allergy known to womankind so I'm bound to have inherited a few.

We have had delicate floaty snowflakes on and off since yesterday. Looks so beautiful and isn't settling which I am pleased about - get the nice visuals without the dangerous ice after.

Got lots I could be doing but can't seem to get stuck in. Going into town after lunch. DH has no shoes/trainers without holes! He came back from work Thursday with the back hanging off one trainer. He waits til they are literally falling off his feet before he buys new - I guess he is getting his money's worth!

Right onwards and upwards. Not even dressed yet! Will potter about doing chores before boys' dance class then lunch and town. Better make some bread too.

    sq:)
  • Thanks MrsLW for suggestions about my girls' night out. I like the idea of everyone making a dish myself but others are not OS and I know they won't be up for it. To be fair both have younger children than me, one is a single mum with a baby and 5 year old and I think they would find it too hard to organise.

None of my friends are on the same wave length as me, none like baking for example although two of them now occasionally ask me for a receipe and bake once in a while. Its nice to know I am helping them a little bit. I think we will go for the meal deal/voucher approach.

    cheers

Do you think some people are more prone to being bitten by midges and suchlike than others. I never go anywhere to find out, but DD was in same bed with friend on holiday abroad (not just the once), she never gets bitten but friend always does. What's that about?

Someone once told me midges don't like the taste of coffee so I tend to drink lots if I'm up in Scotland or by Lakes of an evening. OH only drinks tea and is eaten alive every time he steps over the porch. Don't know if it's true, but works for us
