    Oops, pressed submit too soon.

Rather than go through Control Panel, you ought to be able to see it if you go to My Computer. In the left hand pane it will have a list of drives which you can click on to expand. You should be able to see your USB stick there once you get past this little problem. Then find your file in the right hand pane and literally drag it to the USB drive in the left hand pane. That's the way I do it

Greyqueen - don't worry, I too am a technophobe and only pick up new skills as and when I need them. Until then there is much cursing, wailing and gnashing of teeth when something doesn't work the way I want it to.

HHester So sorry to hear about your nephews little girl - here's hoping that they can treat her quickly. I do know that childhood leukemia treatment is very effective now so hugs & positive vibes to you & your family
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

:o Thanks for the reassurance that I am not alone in this. I came to the world of computing later in life thru Adult Ed (after I realised that they weren't going to go away if I ignored them and I'd be unemployable unless I got a grip).

But there's plenty of stuff I have never ever done and everyone else seems to go whizzing around. I have now got the entire contents of My Documents inc my few pix onto the USB stick. I've had that stick sitting on my desk still in it's packet since 16th January. Because I was scared of it. :o Still a bit shaky and wishing I had chocolate.

At least if the pooter blows I shan't lose the recipes gleaned from 2 years of hanging out on Old Style. Had the hard drive on a works PC fail on me last month and suddenly getting The Blue Screen of Death concentrated the mind wonderfully on the risks I was running with my own PC.

Right, now going back to catch up with the last 24 hours on this thread, I may be gone for some time.

((((HH))))) I am so sorry to hear about the little one with leukemia. Sending all good wishes that she will respond to treatment and make a full recovery.

  • Hester sending good wishes for the little one - a friend's daughter was diagnosed in 2011 and is very well now with an excellent prognosis. Makes me feel ashamed for how I feel today - i've been very fortunate to have had my life, but it is heartbreaking to see illness in such a little one.

WCS - ((hugs)) receiving a diagnosis is always difficult even if you are expecting it.

Hester - I hope the little girl is ok - will keep her in my thoughts.

I am full of cold today and feel rotten but as we had promised the kids a trip out we went anyway - I wish we hadnt. We went to visit the safari park and it was a disaster from the start. Huge queues, meant fractious kids, OH drove the car into the back end of another car.
ANd then he insisted on taking the car through the monkey enclosure (DS8 kept telling him not to) and they ripped out the washer jets!

I am now full of cold, aching all over particularly my neck and shoulders, and counting the cost of the day:)

EEEK sitting by a lake in the evening sun - don't they have MIDGES??
:D Scottish midges are special, Mar. When I was in the Outer Hebrides, it was mostly blowing a hooley (Force 10 storm on ther first night) but if you got under the wind the midges gotcha. Me and the pal made our way to this darlingest little cove to have our lunchtime sarnies, it was so beautiful......we ran out of there screeching like banshees about 5 mins later.

Mark you, I have never in my life had such a radiant complexion, combination of the soft water and being blown about outside all day. If you could bottle it, you'd make a fortune.

Missrlr, sorry to hear that the "r" word is haunting your house. There's a worrying lot of it about. Keeping digits crossed that it will pass without claiming a victim.

Cheapskate, does that mean that both of your jobs (I think you had two at once?) are finished now? I think you're doing the right thing and here's hoping the wee bit extra cash will find itself some lovely bargains to be spent on.

((((jem)))) hope that you and the OH work it out. Pizza and ice-cream is a promising start.

Mrs VP, hoping that your OH's PPI comes through. I used to work with a bloke who was delightful but scatterbrained. He recovered bank charges (not PPI) of £3,000 + (I saw the cheque). Well worth trying.

WCS......ouch. SuperGran has suddenly been struck down by arthritis too, and can barely walk forthe pain in her knees. She's admitted to being a bit scared, in conversation earlier this evening. I'm worried for her, she's not quite 70 and seemed indestructable and it got so bad in a couple of weeks. She's back to her GP next week for further investigations. It runs in her family.....

SavingQueen, my friendly neighbourhood washing machine mechanic says that bra wires going thru the holes in the drum is the number 1 cause of breakdown.

Hats off to those who have mended washers and driers. It's the best feeling, to fix something with your own hands, esp if you started off without a clue.

Oooofff, need more tea. Don't know if I'm sickening for something or it really is absolutely bliddy perishing cold tonight, but I can't get warm and I'm sitting beside a radiator cranked to the limit. Keep well, GQ xx

  • Oh poor supergran - hope it eases. Immune disorders run in our family, so i've been kinda expecting it for the past couple of years as things have got worse and worse - its a little scary when you're a single person of a certain age :), plus i'm the one who takes care of everyone else usually.

Do NOT even mention those wee beasties! I will have the nightmares.
Spent a camping trip at Oban many moons ago trying to protect my eyes (and everything else ) from being eaten by the blasted things.

Memory Girl who used to post on the How Much Have you Saved forum now has her own blog at Mortgage Free in Three. She's a Scot and claims that Scottish midges could carry off a small child LOL.

I don't believe they can be as bad as the horse flies you get in France. We were near a river and it was a hot night so I'd pushed off the covers. One of the bleedin' things bit me on the boob!! Ye Gods that is painful. It came up in a huge blister which left a dent in my boob when it finally healed months later
