THey're a lot worse in the west - we don't get much bother here really, I think we too high up and too cold ! Spent a weekend in a hotel room in Ullapool once sniggering at the tourists outside batting and swatting around their faces like mad things.
    We are very bad LOL

We have midges, horseflies, mossies.... when I first came here I was eaten alive, now I just don't get out much :rotfl:

Sorry to hear about the little one Hester, best wishes for good treatment.

WCS, sorry you've got PA, but glad you'll be treated and be a bit better soon. Dropping tea is no laughing matter.

Kidcat, sounds like you should have left your OH in with the monkeys. Hope you can get it fixed cheaply.

And much love to anyone I missed.

Mallaig, flaming 'eck. Father in law lives loch side in Scotland so we're used to the rotters when we visit but never as much as I experienced when holidaying near the white sands.

DH turning into weightloss class leader. He's going to weigh me Sat morning and promises to take the Micky if I put on weight... I think it might work! He's resorted to saying 'hew big bird, put the kettle on!' Call me anything, but not big bird!!!!! Thing is, because he knows I hate it, he's doing it all the more. Swine!

GQ - what a memory! 2nd, smaller job not finished yet, but I'm still dithering about leaving that one. It hardly pays anything, but the hours etc aren't much either, so MAY stay, for a while at least! Hope SG's ok soon, I always picture her as the Margaret Rutherford type in character, but with the deceptive appearance of a middle-aged Tinkerbell! :D

Worst midges I suffered with weren't Scottish ones (I have Scottish blood so prob immune! :rotfl:) but on Cyprus one summer. I used so much repellent you could smell me coming, but the bu99ers still had me for breakfast, lunch and tea! Was bitten by a horsefly as a teenager, what nasty things they are, too.

    A xo

Do you think some people are more prone to being bitten by midges and suchlike than others. I never go anywhere to find out, but DD was in same bed with friend on holiday abroad (not just the once), she never gets bitten but friend always does. What's that about?

Definitely yes - my husband and one son never get bitten but the rest of us get covered in them.

:) My observation is that some people are more surceptible. Critters make a beeline (pun intended) for my mother and brother and leave Dad and me alone. Don't know bloodtypes for Dad and Bro but Mum is a type B and I'm an O.

Some people also have very strong reactions to insect bites whereas others have neglible reactions, so it may be that they're getting bitten but not noticing.

You can help yourself by not wearing yellow in summer (it attracts insects) and leaving off floral toiletries. This will not fool Caledonius Barracudus Midgeous which is a terror in a class of its own. You wouldn't believe something so small could have a bite so vicious. They get up into your hairline *shudders*

There is also a persistant rumour, confirmed to me by an Army pal, that Av0n Skin So Soft lotion is a midge repellant and is taken by the crateload into the Highlands by the SAS when out on training exercises. Herbrideans told me it does work, but not on everyone.

I just love the thought of the SAS being Av0n customers. If it isn't true, it ought to be.

I can go for a walk with my family and my parents get bitten repeatedly and I don't at all! I don't remember the last time I was bitten by any sort of bug - 10 or 15 years ago at least.

    I do eat Marmite though!!

World book day coming up. Hate it with a passion as it means two new costumes (because they outgrow last years!) and costumes are flaming expensive. So this year I fancy getting them to decorate some plain t-shirts with pictures of their favourite characters. Only problem will be if all their friends are in character. Tesc0/Asd* normally have some lower priced stuff so even if I get little dd a costume, eldest might go for her good jeans, basket ball boots and a world book day designed t-shirt. ;)

Also, my crochet has been commissioned... By DH! Lol he thinks I should crochet a long runner for the hall. I'm dubious as to how we would stop it curling etc but I honk it will be worth investigating. Any ideas how we could get it to grip the carpet a bit more?

Pancakes for breakfast and we have snow! A fair bit has fallen so looks pretty without the fear factor of it causing too much of a problem.

Aldi trip today. Fingers crossed for strawbs. I think my chance has passed though, or maybe, was it Katie that said? I might get some reduced ;)
