I had an email to say that my referee had submitted a reference for my university application. I have paid my £12 registration fee through UCAS and can officially say that I am thrilled that I have applied for a university place on BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Learning Disability)
I'm very excited but very nervous that I may not be good enough or that I'm too old compared to the young kids out there. I feel I'm relying on my work experience and psychology OU units, my NNEB qualification was years ago and hardly as flashy as A levels (although equivalent of 2 A Levels) its out dated. Right doubts are creeping in, I'm shutting up... I can do this!
Yes you can do it, and if it's a help my friend started her nurse training when she was 38 and found that her and the other over 20's where doing better in the course the young one's, the course teacher put it down to not being as easly distracted by good looking doctor's plus the fact most of them already had familie's to look after and realy wanted to do the training.£71.93/ £180.000 -
Afternoon All,
Hugs to all who need them, suspect that's most of us. The sun is out but again for some reason Saturday was warmer even indoor than yesterday and today...
I awoke to the news that another favourite of mine, Richard Briers had passed away, sadly that happens all too often these days.
I used to(perhaps just because we always have)go into the "Dress" circle at the theatre elizabunny but I often get a better view now in the stalls as you are often looking slightly up so people in other seats don't block my view and so far unlike your experience of the cinema the audience by enlarge are not eating as much and its most confined to the interval and is still mainly ice cream.
Of late I have noticed that some are starting to hold conversations whilst watching those on stage almost as though they think they are at home in front of a tv rather than a live event."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Hello Fuddle!
I can understand how are you feeling as at the moment I'm doing ACA(qualification in Acconting/Finance).Having zero previous experience and degree in Biology I can honestly say that's one of the most difficult things I've ever done.Do I compare myself to young students?Yes of course. But I have 2 kids,2 jobs, husband who is working away and really I don't care if it takes more time for me to undestand some topics(let say much more time).I've set my goal and I'll achieve it sooner or later. So don't worry and don't let doubts start creeping in!

Afternoon everyone,
Fuddle - I'm another one saying "yes you can do it". From personal experience on both sides of the fence (student and lecturer) there are so many advantages to being a mature student: you just have more life experience, you *really* want to be there, you are more organized. So go for it!
This is ridiculous, I've taken the day off cos the sun is shining and we had some stuff to do outside and I feel more like 106 than 46. I did an hour's digging and weeding yesterday, and the same again today and everything hurts ! We're determined to get some decent veg gardening done this year - but at this rate it's going to cost me a fortune in hot baths and relaxing bubble bath: what am I doing wrong?
Hope everyone's Monday is bearing up ok.
Take care everyone.0 -
FUDDLEs can too do anything they set their minds to, oh yes they can !!!!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Fuddle DH and myself went to horticultural college for 3 years when DH was 49 and I was 47! Yes we both were surrounded by younger students but, amazingly we settled down quickly and had a great rapport with the younger one's. It was an experience we would never have missed! So you go for it, you will be fine!Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

I was accepted onto a nursing course in my 50's so I think someone in their 30's will be more than ok.
I was also the oldest on my uni course, even older than the tutors. It wasn't a problem...0 -

Likely to be at least one third over 25 and 20% plus over 30.
Mature students have a real problem; they think they are all imposters. It often takes them a year to realise that the brash confidence of the youngest students is not overly based in reality. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thanks for the positive words everyone. So eased to read that so many of you have been mature students. Lyn, fuddles are triers
or as DH says 'yes dear, you're very trying!'
I've been reading up on the while 'university experience' I won't subscribing to half of it, will be adorning my wellies rather than a hang over and watching school plays rather that attending music festivals. I need to prepare myself how I'm goi. To answer the question about fitting in as a student. A this moment in time I don't know how to angle it. Hey, getting presumptuous, I might not get an interview!
It's so nice to know which direction my life is going in and writin my personal statement I realised it's what I really want to do. If I don't get in this time I will complete the adult learners access course and try and try again.
I worries me about being in debt re: fees etc but I have to look at as an investment in our future. It also worries me that I might not be physically fit to work as a nurse at the age of 68 but what is the point of thinking like that eh? What will be will be, whatever happens will happen and I'll deal with it
Edit: apologies for all the typos, still on phone.0 -
FUDDLE just be you, go in open minded and see what happens. I'm sure you'll have a great time and make loads of new friends - you'll end up being Mum to all the youngsters away from home, you won't be able to help yourself!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0
