Oh, I knew there was something I meant to mention when I was in the neighbouring town doing the cheap shops...I popped into a British Heart Foundation furniture shop(they deliver too)My chin hit the floor. Fridges/freezers, TV's, hi-fi's etc...at silly prices and the quality of furniture new and second hand(beds, tables, sofa's etc...)was so good.

Later in the year I may very well be down there buying items or replacing some of what I have...I was really amazed, even second hand items did not look as though it was.

  • Morning all, still not a flake here in cornwall, however it is baltic, though I doubt as bad as some places.... am loving this thread and the prep for winter as it really gives me my snowy winter fix. something I'm not really going to get down here in salty cornwall.
The chickens have blessed me with 3 eggs already this morning, a thankyou for keeping them toasty.. I do worry about my feathery friends at the top of the garden in Cluckington Mannor. They had some extra hay to snuggle up with last night as I noticed the temp had dropped quite a lot through the day, the only plus to that was that the ground was firm this morning and no risk of slipping and breaking my neck. the birdies are enjoying their half filled coconut shells and bread, have positioned the feeder by the kitchen window so that I can watch most of the time. Glad to see everyone has made it home safe from trips and that you are all staying warm and toasty...;)Thanks for the link on the back bible book, my mum suffered on 2 occasions now with protruding disks and has started getting a mind thing about not going out much or driving because she thinks it will go again, such a shame as she is only 56 and was so bubbly before... the queen of the second hand shops. she alternates between physio and osteo every 2 weeks and pays private, she also has private medical insurance, but the local doctor will NOT refer her for an MRI so she can never really get to the bottom of the problem and it's really upsetting her.:(

hope everyone else is ok. GQ how are you doing? I'm hoping tomorrow I will feel more lively, digits crossed for us both.sq:)
:) I'm fine, hunny bun, went offline yestereve as hanging out with a pal.

Spending an indoor day today as have various things I should be doing so that I don't start the workweek in a mess and muddle. In fact, all I've done since I got up just before 9 am is to eat a bacon butty and drink tea and MSE. Must go do summat like washed and dressed and on with some chores - to be interspersed with the interweb, of course.

I was recommended to have osteopathy years ago by my then GP who said they couldn't refer me. Since it was a nagging problem which was causing me a lot of trouble, I elected to loot my limited savings. I found it excellent and would use an osteo again but I'd avoid chiroprac after various anecdotes from pals who've had bad experiences.

I've also done Alexander Technique which is expensive but very very valuable, if you can make the commitment.

cheapskate I don't blame you for needing to downsize your work commitments. I constantly observe the complicated and exhausting lifestyles of my female colleagues as they juggle work and family and am awed at their stamina but it's at a heavy price. Some of them are the sole/ main breadwinner and haven't an option to become SAHMs but they'd like to. I'd say if you can humanly manage, do so. Best wishes with it.

Right, five more interminutes then I'm doing something ITRW.

Been thinking of getting a blood pressure monitor...seeing I am on BP tablets...but the one in Aldi's some time ago though good was too far to travel(and adding bus fares was silly)of course now we have one on the town, then Lidl had one a few weeks ago but again it meant travelling...

They are available in Pharmancies but I think they cost a bit more, no doubt Aldies will get them in again...Anyone use one or think they are a waste of time?

Glad you're back safely pops and had a brilliant night!

Ditti GQ - sounds like you're feeling a bit more lively, great!

I'm a bit more perky today, been pottering about doing basic chores but still in dressing gown as are my lads. His Royal Snoreiness is still in bed - will have to wake him up soon. I can hear the snoring from downstairs!

let cats out for a comfort break around 6.30 and then back to bed for a couple of hours lie-in and forgot all about them til I got up. They didn't seem impressed with all that cold white stuff we have (and still coming down) but looked beautiful with snow speckled fur, especially posh cat who has the softest black velvet coat.

Talking of cats - did anyone see that TV prog yesterday eve on tigers in Bhutan. We all love wildlife shows and sat cuddled up together with our cats watching it. I'm not good doing links but just seen a little video clip on tigers playing in snow at Longleat Safari Park. Will give the link a go... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21088766

planning on staying in again all day long, no reason to go out unless boys want to play in snow but could just open the french doors and let them play in the garden. DH did say he would take them out aga in today. I love looking at snow but that's as far as the love goes I'm afraid. Will be jumpy tomorrow morn until I know whether school is open or not. Their school is pretty good at staying open when others in same area close - I agree with them, just thinking selfishly of the drive.

Didn't get the chicken out to defrost yesterday as wasn't sure how well I would feel today. Really fancied a roast, never mind I have a cabbage that really needs eating now so will do a toad with lots of cabbage instead and save the roast for a treat in the week.

ok better go and do something useful again. keep warm everyone - now is the time for your heating!

It's not TalkTalks fault I'm having problems (incorrect installation by BT/builder when house built) but TT are my only way of communication through to BT. I'm paying (when connected) £3.50 per month for unlimited Broadband for 6 months then £6aomething thereafter. It was the best deal I could find so I guess I'm willing to put up with the frustration for that price. Thank you for email link merlot123 :) I will try that. Bizarre about the comma - the cynic in me thinks they don't want to be found lol

Lyn the brum has a name - Joy the Jalopy. She's named Joy for a variety of reasons. It's ever so colourful inside, blue interior with each seat belt being a different primary colour... I'm going to crochet cushions and blankets ala attic24 style. The girls think its cool. I can't upload pics via my phone (haven't fathomed it anyway) so will have to wait till I'm online.

I was watching programme on winter watch about the winter of big freeze I. The 60s. How they coped I do not know. Anyone remember it?

Of out for a walk with dog, kids and sledges then off to MIL's for a cuppa and a natter, weather permitting. Have a lovely day toughies

I was 10 in 1960 but I can't remember it - we lived in a high place and got lots of snow in winter anyway.
  • Hello JOY THE JALOPPY!!! sounds great FUDDLE will be beautiful when accessorised inside and will be the girls pride and joy!!!!

I do remember the very cold winter shown in that programme last night, I was doing my O levels and went to a technical school some 9 miles away from home. The busses were all over the place and getting there and back again was a lottery on any given day. We didn't have any heating indoors only a coal fire in one room downstairs, no hot water system, had to boil it on the gas stove and only 1 outdoor Loo, no bathroom indoors!!! I remember my mum putting coats on the beds to try to warm us up, but we survived it all and I don't remember people being cross, resigned maybe, but everyone pulled together to get by and helped each other out. Cups of sugar borrowed, cups of tea shared ,outgrown clothing and shoes and wellies passed round to those who needed them - I do remember the chillblains though, could have done without those! It did go on for such a long time though, when spring finally did arrive it was so wonderful but even the cold had some fun aspects, good snowball fights and sledging in the road outside the house with your peers was smashing. Cheers Lyn xxx

The main roads were pretty clear last night and yet I heard a passenger talking to a bus driver before he alighted and there had originally been a weather warning issued by the Met Office and at one point it was touch and go that the buses might have been called off:eek:I had no idea, just as well...I had taken some extra money with me just in case I had to try and get a room but wasn't very happy walking about with so much on my person. Actually I think the weather was better last night than earlier in the week when there was a kind of icy fog around.
