Morning everyone, OH has been told not to go to work, so hes laying in a hot bubble bath singing away. Is nice to have him at home, just a shame that i have to go to work at 11. We got sent home early last night but i cant see it happening again soon. The roads werent as bad as i thought, but the snow was blowing off the fields so i expect if we had left off later it could have been.
I hope everyone is cozy, popperwell have you got your heating on?????
take care, xBSC member 137

RANTING!
Just when you thought insurance companies could not get worse!
DH has been telling me about a work colleague whose car has been in a bump in the snow. He has had snow tyres fitted because he lives rurally and travels quite a distance to work. His insurance company has refused to pay out on his claim because of the snow tyres! They say they are a modification and that they should have been informed about them being fitted.
Ch*rchill. who lets face it are a well known and wealthy company will not pay out, they say they would have if they had been informed of the 'modification!'
Our insurance company would have charged us a fee to change our policy if we had put on snow tyres, and I would imagine they would charge it again when we removed the snow tyres! Those of you talking about snow chains had best check where you stand with your insurance companies.
It's amazing, you try to do your best to improve things and get penalised in the process! :mad:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Morning Toughies, hope all of you are safe and warm in this cold weather. We had no more snow overnight but it's quite icy outside and I've just popped the central heating on for half an hour as the house was feeling cold and a bit damp. We normally only use the woodburner, but I thought it would be good for the other rooms to be warmed up a bit. He who knows and his boy have just been for a walk and he says the ice is 'crunchy' (it cracks and gives underfoot) and not very slippery at all. The road surface is clean on one side, but still icy where it is in the shade but the traffic is moving OK today. The birds here are really hungry and wait on the fence looking at the kitchen door as it gets light. I've taken to splitting the food into two and feeding the other half at about 3 in the afternoon as I think most people feed in the morning and then they are hungry to survive the night. Certainly many of then come to be fed both times and I'm putting out warm water a couple of times a day as well as they are as thirsty as they are hungry. Planning to do lots of in the house jobs today and only going out to walk the pooch this afternoon, thank goodness for wellies with good grips on. Stay safe all, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

NuttyP, I have had :)it came on in the early evening and as it was on the timer it kicked in over night so it was on for four hours in total:eek:
No snow oovernight even though I am in the same county as Meme30(BTW that about snow chains is crazy and that insurance company but not unknown)Can you imagine constantly phoning them up and saying "I'm putting the chains on today" and then perhaps the next day "I'm taking them off" Madness!
It's not likely but my contents policy says that my home cannot be unoccupied more than 42 days each year. Of course I am going to phone them up and tell them...but how many of us would take that much time off in one go?
Most have to stay indoors at home more now than they ever have(we haven't the money to go away and we nearly all take precautions to avoid a break in whether you ask a neighbour to watch the property, have lights coming on or leave a radio on etc..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
"Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in" ~ Alan Alda0 -
Thinking of buying a day ticket and having a quick bus ride to a neighbouring town and popping into Poundland, B&M Bargains and Holland and Barrett.
Come home have something to eat then go to the Big Band concert tonight weather permitting.
Tomorrow is a big final tidy up as on Wednesday they want to check the electrics of the house so no doubt the PC and router will have to be turned off. I hope it is easy to set up again...otherwise if I have to get the PC man in that will cost me money..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

pops your router will just all come back on etc make sure you switch it all off before he turns the electric off to avoid any damage from a surge as it switches back on. It will be fine - personally I wouldnt be going out today unless you really had to, its bad here.
meme - a change of tyres, is a change in risk and recalculated as such, I see both sides here, the problem is that insurance companies have to word to cover all eventualities and its difficult to not throw the baby out with the bath water.
Also this country has not had much snow over the years - the last four years are unprecedented, my eldest two have never seen as much snow, whereas my youngest two think its normal. BUt it means that snow tyres were previously not considered by people. Insurance terms have not caught up yet with what is a relatively new trend.
Saying that I do have a friend who has used snow tyres every winter since she passed her test (but she gets good snow most years) and has always had to inform her company.
For anyone caught in an accident and whose company are refusing to pay due to the tyres - it may be worth contacting them with figures to prove that the risk is actually lower with the tyres and therefore by not informing the company the client was paying over the odds - it may not work as the reply will be that the tyres themselves cost more to replace in an accident. BUt it may be that the company will part pay the claim at least - maybe minus tyre cost? which is better than nothing, good luck to your friend.
If they are still not satisfied they can contact the insurance ombudsman and argue that they were taking due care etc and see if hat gets them anywhere.0 -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KITTIE!!!!!!!!! Hope you are snug and warm even if you are stuck in the village in the snow. I know you'll be organised for all of this and working hard at your new spinning hobby. Hope you have a lovely day, Love Lyn xxx.0

Morning all, back is less painful so I thought that I would have a go at the Leslie Sansone start walking 3 miles at home (on you tube). I managed the first mile so was quite pleased with that. Will try some gently wii exercise later today. Recorded another weeks weight loss on the old style weight loss thread so that is now a loss of 6lb so far this month :j. Still a long way to go though.
There is still about 4 inches of snow on the ground although it looks to be melting a little. It looks very pretty and I might see if OH will go for walk in it later if my back does not protest too much following this mornings exercise.
Happy birthday Kittie,enjoy your day
keep well and warm everyoneI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
