went into work this morn and line manager asked what the big boss wanted with me, so i told her. she said 'nothing against you, lisa, but i can guarantee its not gonna happen' lo and behold and hour later she calls me over to tell me it's been a misunderstanding and they dont need me after all

phoned her manager (lots of different supervisors and managers, more than they need i reckon!) and told her about the conversation and how annoyed i was about it. she explained that the school needs someone who already has experience and the boss who phoned me thought i had already run a kitchen. told her i thought it was downright rude to offer someone an opportunity then to not only take it away without explanation, but to pass on the message through someone else.

turns out there is another similar opportunity going on the intranet tonight or tomorrow with the option to train. will be applying for definite. a bit further to travel and will need the car, but will be more than double my current wages if i get it.

feeling a bit deflated now and need to do tea for the kids but cant be bothered :( might get DH to do them a tin of soup while i sit and sulk ;)

(((hugs)))) Ooooh there's a lot of it about at the moment. Want me to stick some pins in for you too??? ;)

May need all your cooking skills.:o

I have been to the doctors today. I am fasting from 10 tonight to have bloods taken at 8 in the morning.
But she has put me on a complete carb free diet. Not just the normal bread, cereal, rice etc, all carbs. No sauces, soups, FRUIT that sugars.
I even have to go from semi to skimmed milk in my coffee.:(

I don't eat wheat much wheat any way as I have IBS, but no carbs at all is going to be very hard.

I can see myself living on a diet of chops and broccoli.

As you maybe able to tell, I am not impressed at the moment.:(

It's warmed up to -8 and now it's snowing. Before now it was too cold to snow.

Had 2.5 hours in the dentists chair this morning and have to go back in a fortnights time. Root canal and temporary crown on. My jaw aches as does my bank book.

WonderCollie is lying on the floor looking hopeful. Bt I'm not going out, so I'll have to see if one of the boys will do the honours.

I have no idea what is for supper (it's just midday here). They may have to fend for themselves.

Pops, good to see the mention of the free bus pass to which you are DEFINITELY entitled if you get Higher Rate Mobility! Pops has given the low-down on our weather.

Exciting news on the car, Fuddle!

Wondercollie, I had an Old English sheepdog and eventually got to trimming her leg hair for winter, it mats like wool in that breed and is a total nightmare in winter, as with the wonder dog.

I have a mega-sized pot of bacon and turkey stew on the go, an odd mix I know, but chicken and bacon go well with the rest of the stew - 3lbs potatoes, all of which needed using as they were getting past their best, 1 1/2lb parsnips ditto, 1 1/2 lb carrots ditto, 1lb leeks ditto, plus a small swede and a mix of 1 1/2 lbs red and white onions. There's over 2lb of meat in there as well.

The stock got beefed up as usual with a host of savoury bits and pieces - Oxo, Knorr stock pots, some barbecue dip, Worcester sauce. We never get a stock tasting the same but this one is really good. Just what is needed in this weather.

Most of the veg was from the back of the cool cupboard (all dated around Christmas!) and probably would have been binned by those less fussy. It should have been made last week, but it just wasn't stew weather.
DS has a phenomenal appetite some days and this could well be gone by tomorrow night.

I'm on a difficult diet at the moment too OMO - no alcohol, caffeine, sugar (including fruit), fish, dairy, aubergines, avodado or tomatoes. No preprepared, reheated or microwaved food. Limited pulses and nuts.

Try omelettes for breakfast (good way of getting veg first thing!). I have mushroom, leek or pepper omelettes or scrambled egg. ETA - scrap that, I've see you don't eat eggs. How about bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes for breakfast?

And broccoli isn't a bad thing to live on! Lots of stir-fries and Thai curries works for me too.

    Good luck with it!

Well, we had snow for most of the daylight hours, it has now stopped but not sure if that's just temporarily. Stuck in again due to SD -can't risk slipping over and undoing any progress I've made so far. Managed to potter for longer this morning with no painkillers, so this in my opinion is progress.

Managed to bake two loaves and a pot of HM Veggie soup, but the soup burnt at the bottom in my pressure cooker:( I think I must have added too much pearl barley. So that took me three quarters of an hour to clean the burnt stuff off the bottom of the pan.

I'm not sure about this new State Pension business. They keep saying it will benefit Mum's who have child benefit NI Credits now, but as far as I understood, that was always the case anyway. Very confusing. I never thought when I was younger that I would have to worry about retirement and whether or not we could manage. Now I find, I have had my retirement age pushed back 5 years, then another year and today it seems I will need 35 years NI to qualify for the full State Pension, when previously I only needed 30 years. Quite frankly I am fed with it! I have a long term health problem and am now supported financially by DH and absolutely no one else. I would have qualified for the full state pension if it had remained at 30 years and now I won't! There's little possibility of me making up the extra 5 years now and we've scrimped and lived frugally for all of our married life

With this recession/downturn austerity time, I fear that the future for a lot of people due to retire in the next 10 years and beyond, will be grim. It is hard to build up savings when things cost so much and wages are not rising to keep up with the increases. DH has had no wage rise for nearly three years -but I hasten to add he is lucky to have a job. Even if you can manage to save a little bit, the interest rates are so poor. A trip to the Dentist or Optician can swallow up savings quicker than you can save it -if you can save it. It's a no win situation.

I guess like many younger people who are struggling to find there way through, find jobs, keep jobs and worrying about losing various benefits, us older OSlers are in are own little nightmare. Will we be able to afford heating, food etc etc and in many cases I fear the answer will be no, there will just not be enough to stretch around. In this new era of, in it together, will there still be room for compassion, for the struggling family with tiny babies & young children and not enough food to put on the table. For the OAP who has run out of funds and can no longer heat their home properly. For the disabled/incapacitated person who fears the loss of their benefits. Again, I fear not for already we are seeing the evidence around us.

So sorry for the gloomy post, but I have been stuck in with this SD for too long now listening to the gloomy news. Having had my Pension Rights goal posts shifted so many times now, I am left wondering if I will be here long enough to actually reach my pension age, let alone whether there will be enough money to finance it. Presumably the work house will soon be making a return :( Thank goodness for forums like this where we can share our worries with people that actually listen. I also wonder if there are many other 57ish year old women out there that feel that they have drawn a very short straw.

OMO:-That's a very extreme diet. and virtually impossible to achieve. At the same time I think it cannot be good for you either.
We diet by only eating 20grams of net carbs a day. This is the equivelent of 6oz of salad leaves and 7-11 ozs of cooked veg. Our diet consists of meat, cheese, eggs, fish and veg. Our carbs comes from the veg.
All veg are made up of carbs, anything that tastes sweet like carrots and parsnips are higher in carbs than those that don't.
I use this web site for ideas for low carb foods.
    http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html
The recipes with a * next to them are Induction level. That means they have the least number of carbs.
The quantities are huge, I think it's because it's an American site. I either half or quarter the amounts.
    Hope it helps. :)
