unixgirluk Like you all available space here is filled with food and I don't care too much about dates(My latest cereal choice is 6 months over the date and is perfectly fine...)I've had worse and I think it cost £1.29 a box Wheataflakes similar to cornflakes. I can always add some fruit etc...I always buy when on offer or own brand these days...The other day I ate porridge oats well past the date(To be honest I couldn't see a date, again it was fine...as I had managed to get Mum to eat porridge which she had never done when she was ill it could be well passed the date.
It shows how long food lasts and is usually safe and how much is thrown away un-necessarily...
Good luck on the job front BTW..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I have to work till I'm 68 to qualify for our national pension. My hospital pension will be small because I work part time and have only nursed since my children started full time school.
What really is annoying me (and many in my age group) is the fact that full government pensions and supplements have been given to women who have never worked outside the home for a cheque. They never paid into the system and have reaped the benefits. My retirement age has been pushed back by three years so I can continue to work to pay for these people. And they moan about building the country and how my generation has messed it up. Uhm, no they voted for the governments of the 1970s who set up these plans and didn't change the government until the early 1990s when fiscal cuts had to be introduced to manage the national debt.
I've had to bite my tongue more than once to say "thank you for messing up the country for my generation by your voting Liberal for 30 years!"0 -
Morning toughies, lots of the white stuff here this morning. OH has retuned to work, not sre how he will be getting on. Hes a courier, so i will be worrying all day. DD is waiting to find out if the collage is open or closed, no point me getting the car out if shes not going in.
I have a confession to make, i am into celebrity big brother - ther you go i said it. OMG what an eye opener to hear lacey a 20yr old page3 model complaining about the benefit system. She has said if you havent contributed to it, why should you get anything from it. Also we should be helping the disabled, carers and elderly more. She was saying how disgusting it was that elderly people who work all their lives and have often fought in the war cant afford heating. Was shocked to hear it, and even more shocked that the others agreed.
She also said it was madness in this country to allow 15yr old girls to have kids, and then give them money and a flat etc. OMG she was definatley moaning that friends of hers who were in the situation said they are comfortably off.
Has anyone been into ald!? I have been told they have the george foreman grill in for £19. wehave a sortof grill in the oven, but it takes ages to warm up so i wondered if this could be the best option.
For anyone after a halogen oven, ald! have these in too.

So agree with her. Am sick of watching my elderly parents struggle after a lifetime of hard work while my 25 year old nephew, never done a days work in his life (oops tell a lie, he had an apprenticeship for 2 months aged 17 but left in disgust because he had to make the tea and they didn't pay him as much as the trained experienced mechanics), walk around in brand new clothing clutching an iphone in one hand and an ipad in the other. He is a single parent after a one night stand with a girl who already had 2 kids and didnt want another. So far the tax payer has funded his lifestyle, paid his rent (he did live with his mum in 3 bed HA house, rent also covered by tax payer, so ample room but fancied a place ofhis own so HA obliged) and expecred nothing from him by way of standing on his own two feet. He also smokes, lives on junk food and can afford to go out every weekend.
Sorry if I sound bitter, and I know there are lots of folk out there who all but starve on benefits, but the money we pour into the pockets of some young single parents really gets me mad. Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -

Yes they have and...a pressure cooker too but Argos have two PC's and they are reduced so cheaper and one is larger than the one in Aldi's and £12 cheaper. I am debating if I should get one and they are a good make(Prestiege)as I hear good things. I like the slow cooker but I keep hearing that PC's are quick and quite economical on the energy side of things and that like the slow cooker food does not dry out.
Also that you can cook a few items at once.
Hope that your OH is safe...I'm sure he will be...no more snow here but it is damned cold even indoors. Lots of clothes to go on, hot water bottles and warm drinks...
Interesting what the CBB person has said, good to see her at least sticking up for the ill, disabled and pensioners. Also appreciating the difficulty of heating a home, eating well and we must not forget that many are lonely but cannot afford to go out very often. That the TV and radio is often their only company but the way things are going that is the life people even younger are living.
Not sure where we are going to end up...oh well..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Well I think we knew this was coming, and is why I was so angry at people being happy to jump on the bandwagon of slagging those on benefit. Divide and rule never fails as long as the people are stupid. Those who stood by and applauded when the poorest and the sick were targeted now know what it feels like. If we don't unite and speak out then where will this end? Who's it going to be next?0

From what I can see just about everyone(bar the very few)will be hurting and the trouble still is the way the media reports or ignores a lot of what is happening and the way politicians spin and twist sometimes statistics from their own official department many believe what is said and yes as you say Mar then instead of being united we are divided and fight amongst ourselves.
Trouble is there isn't much to choose between those in opposition/in power and the alternatives lean the same way and it will take ages to reverse what is happening. There is no way a new political force could be up and running by the next election so I don't have an answer nor do I see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Lovely way to start the day and trying to be positive...hope I am not annoying anyone by saying this but so far seeing it has come up we mostly seem to be singing from the same hymnsheet."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Well said popperwell doesn't seem tto matter who governs because they all end up the same way. I feel so sad for the elderly, the disabled, the homeless, young families struggling on minimum wage - with no end in sight to these worrying times. Even the small town where I live (less than 6000 inhabitants) have started a food bank. Sad sign of the times. Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0

That's how I see my food store JKJ as my own food bank. I may have seemed to go over the top but it helps me feel a bit more in control. That's why over the years I have tried to build up spares of many things I think will help regarding the cooking of meals too(You know gadgets, pots and pans etc...)
To be honest as I get older my meals and internet are my luxuries(if I can keep them going)going out and socialising is getting more difficult so no wonder many end up alone with usually a TV or radio for company.
Around here public transport is poor/expensive so if you don't have a bus pass of some kind...they'll probably be taken away. Not much happens around here even voluntary wise.
Neighbouring towns have a better selection of shops but add travel costs and if you budget is tight there isn't much point straying off the town and now at least we have an Aldi to add to the freezer shop and Tesco's.
Yes, we have a food bank now...in one way I am proud that one has been started but in another way sad and angry that they are needed and anyone of us could one day be needing to use them."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

On a personal and selfish topic, I'm annoyed! I have to go to the docs tomorrow with my knee. Even with rest if anything it's getting worse and is now downright painful not only if I lift it, but also just sitting down. Ouch. I am such a wuss
, I'm on a couch to 5k, stuck on the couch....
