Lyn - they have settled here finally now so I hope yours have too, I am compelled to ask why when the main town display was on we didnt here one of the fireworks yet since we have heard huge explosions coming from peoples gardens. Our car was hit twice last night:)
Pops - Its really easy for your doctor to say all that, he doesnt have to live with the realities of it all, he doesnt have to claim any benefits nor rely on an increasing hostile environment for anyone who needs to claim.
He sits in his comfortable room, and is likely to go back to a large warm and expensive house, secure that his bank balance will mean he wont have to make a choice of eat or heat that is the reality for many of his patients.
I understand he told you everything you wanted to hear, but please if you are going to take advice get it from somewhere like a CAB or similar as they at least understand the trials and hardships you face in future:)0 -
SDG as an ex Cs manager you wouldnt believe the silly things I have done, its not a major issue giving out the form and you know now so please dont worry. Just go back next time and get on with things and wait until the person who told you abruptly it was wrong does something herself thats wrong and you can give her that sweet smile and say ' Oh dont worry everyone gets things wrong some days' :T
Bl**dy so**ing fireworks I have had a cat fixed firmly to my leg 3 nights on the run, spare cat is hiding under my duvet and hogs the bed. DGS couldnt stay the night as he couldnt get to sleep as it was like the Somme here. Oh and we just found a huge spent rocket in front of the door of the wooden shed so the rabbit is sulking too.
DGs went home ate 2 of his dads chips, pointed to the stairs and was asleep in 5 minutesClearing the junk to travel light

The HA was quite good today Kidkat and the Dr did say if things become difficult at a future date to contact a welfare officer at the council who he said had helped others...scarey times...for all of us...fair points that you make...he did seem a bit more clued up compared to some I have talked to in the past.
Still lots of unknowns...I was told a reassessment regarding equipment would not affect my entitlements...just can't decide whether to let them go or try and keep some of the aids. Will have to decide pretty quickly...like tomorrow as they are being collected on Wednesday.
Hospital check up on Thursday. Always a bit of a worry..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I don't understand why a doctor would think it would be a good idea to suggest someone doesn't do volunteering when they're grieving and have very empty down days. Please take what the doctor has told you with a pinch of salt. It's good to volunteer, good for everyone involved, especially yourself0

Ginnyknit - we had two hit the car last night and the spent rockets were all over the road, I was really worried what would have happened if we had been getting in the car or if DD6 had been crossing back over from her friends house over the road - the height they fall from they must pack a punch.
We had nothing like that at all, it was all fountain type things and the ones that went into the sky it was just the lights rather than an actual piece of wood IYSWIM
DS8 has only just gone to sleep as the fireworks have not long finished - it means he will be difficult in the morning too.0 -
The stick on this rocket was so thick kidcat OH took it to use as a batten on the shelf he is making  There should be more control on what people can buy to set off at home. The nearest organised fire is a mile away but I guess it could be from there.
I hope your DS8 is ok tomorrow, poor lamb. i was explaining earlier to My DS what its like for an autistic child to go to a bonfire party - sound smell and light bombardment and he was shocked. Dd took DGs last night to watch a display from a bridge out of the way and knew he might not want to stay, luckily it wasnt noisy fireworks, more pretty ones and he loved them, well for a little while anyway.
I swear if the neighbours have another party tomorrow night Im going to spray them with my hosepipe set on high pressure :mad:Clearing the junk to travel light

Even the HA was cautionary on that...I think it depends what you are receiving. On another forum others were having problems and it was causing lots of worries. Genuine people, not sccoungers...but the HA/Dr said getting out is good and you are allowed to socialise just not to do voluntary stuff. As the HA put it...it is a minefield. 7
Even the CAB said that...it did not use to be but the attitide of the general public has changed. Not helped by the media(mainly newspapers such as the Daily Mail/The Sun etc...)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Following on from the criticism of fireworks and animals...
Some children whi were taken along were too young and scared with their heads buried into Mum and wanting to be comforted...don't really understand them being taken along even I would know that large bangs would upset someone that young, they were loud and I had earplugs...then again the accompanying music was horrible and did not match the display and the change of firworks...it was just very loud and very big on base. It was just thump, thump, thump."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I suppose if a person can volunteer then they can work in a similar role/similar hours and come off benefits. Still, it's not for a doctor to suggest anything to do with keeping within the rules of claiming benefits. Doctors should be advising you on what is correct for you. If its a health reason why you can't volunteer then fair enough, but to advise you not to volunteer so you can keep claiming benefits without a hitch is a bit... Eeek in my opinion.0
