Well I don't know what's happening and neither does DD. The upstairs boss wasn't in today, and it was apparently the woman who was leaving (current manager) who told DD that she's now decided not to leave. I've not been in much recently, as all the hours have been cut, so don't know how the wind is blowing. Current manager knows DD was offered the job too...which was the only thing I wasn't sure about. I managed to be civil to her (DD had all ready left when I arrived) but she knew I wasn't happy, as she kept asking me if everything was OK. I am too professional to bawl anyone out in a room full of customers.

I've told DD to call the upstairs boss tomorrow and find out what is going on. To say DD is upset is an understatement, she's already organised finishing with her Xmas Job people, although there may have been an opening there for her, on the basis of being offered the manager job, which was verbally agreed including a start date and salary, before she found out she was pregnant, and the upstairs boss told DD that they wanted her to carry on regardless even WHEN she told them three weeks later she'd just found out she was pregnant. As far as I can make out such a specific verbal agreement is binding...but I fail to see how they can insist the current person leave.

In any case.... unless they sort it all out and DD gets the job she was promised I'm going to withdraw from the labour force. I refuse to work with this woman a moment longer. She does my head in, knows nothing about retail or food and is the least professional person I've ever dealt with, the upstairs are not much better as they got themselves into this one, having done something equally stooopid last year! They keep cutting the hours, so I've had less than half what I was budgeting for for the last four months to live on, and TBH if she carries on running the kitchen, I don't want my personal food business tarred with the same brush as what she serves up when DD and I aren't working there.

I'd really like to say that I was sure it would all be sorted out and will be fine, but my previous experiences of the poor management don't give me great confidence. If DD ends up not being manager I can guarantee that this woman will make sure she gets no hours for the next few months, meaning she will HAVE to leave, chances of getting another job whilst pregnant zilch, so my first grandchild will be living on his dad's 20 hours a week with the co-op. Fan-blooming-tastic!

katie - you are right, they are unlikely to make the other person leave, that means that the only way forward is to compensate your DD financially, it all seems very strange though. Is it possible that the big boss has no idea this other one has changed their mind?
I wonder whether the woman has realised she has made a mistake and is hoping that if she upsets your DD, then she will leave.

I don't know if the big boss knows. She's been off a lot recently as her mum is very ill. I also don't know if the trustees meeting tonight is even about the manager or even on the agenda. I think current manager is a total !!!!! to tell DD on the shop floor on the first day she's been in for weeks... I suspect you may be right. I thought this woman was 'just' incredibly stupid, but it appears she may be 'a piece of work' the only other thing I can think is that this is the whole establishment trying to back out of DD being manager because she's pregnant??? Who knows!

I don't mind the water mixed custard, it is quite watery when you follow the instructions. Instead i put the water in bit by bit till i get the thickness i want. Sometimes i add cinnamon or vannilla to give it more of a kick.

I try to see the good in people, to the point where i ignore the bad. Especially when it comes to people i know, i.e the friend who came round yesterday. She's insulted me many times in the past but yesterday i couldn't deal with it.

Went to the doctors today, told gp about the muck up with appointments so they sorting it out so i don't have to, yet.Oh took me and was not impressed, but he agreed the gp was sympathetic and said he thinks shes a good doctor at least. I was told to rest again, take pain killers, not over do it as they was nothing else they could do.

She phoned me up today to see about coming round for a coffee and say that she's foiund a saturday job and . Turns out its cash so doesn't have to declare. To be honest i couldn'y be dealing with her and said i was working and had to pick my son up from school. She said this early its quarter to three. My reply was well it takes me that long to get round. She still didn't offer to pick ds2 up or ask how i was, personally i think she wanted to get a warm so she can use my heating instead of hers! Told OH and he said i told you she was a doyle.

It was freezing this morning, the frost looked amazing on the windows all the patterns glowing ahhhh
Suopposed to be frosty again tomorrow, can't wait to see the patterns :D

Have been busy with work, (thank goodness!) I had some energy spare for jobs around the house, and a shopping trip on the trike.

Well I had the visit...I will be worse off and have to absorb the cost. It was admitted I am better staying put if I can. Had I been older most of this would not affect me.

But that means riding out the next 6-7 years if by then things do not change still further and this could still go wrong if after sending in my details and being switched to new benefits doesn't go pear shaped.

So still lots of unknowns...my basic lifestyle may get even more basic. Only good news is that once again I was told I should always have a roof over my head.

Then again to be honest the person who called could tell me very little and said what they have been told could change. They could not answer questions about benefits directing me back to the council or DWP. So at best they could only give me an idea what the bedroom tax may cost. I'd already worked that out myself.

So for now I'll try not to worry and live each day as it comes. As many are having to do. And that will be put to one side. For good I hope.

For now...even though I am quite good at budgeting on food(I hope that I am)the next few days it is mainly ready meals but I may add extra vegetables to them...

I got three for £6(saved 90p)so that is around £2 daily but the rest of the week will be cheaper...

I have a chicken casserole with dumpling and gravy, liver and bacon(may add some more bacon and onion)and a chicken, bacon and leek pie(they say pie but its topped with mash potato)I can't remember if it has gravy or a creamy sauce of some kind. For quickness they can be cooked in the microwave.

If I can create some space I can get some Bird's Eye chicken and veg pies(4)whilst they are on offer for £2 and adding some extra veg etc...its a fairly good meal for around £1. I doubt that I could make them any cheaper.

    Morning everyone.

I was up at the crack of dawn with rage, and had breakfast, it's blooming freezing here so I went back to bed to warm up, but the rage won  so I got up and put the bins out.

I hope DD manages to find out !!!!!! is going on... She's in the Xmas Job today, her last day there I think, I hope she manages to maybe keep a foot in the door there, although she's previously said should a job come up there she's OK at the mo.

So not sure what today holds for me. I guess I'd better make some plans for myself. I will carry on all my own 'ventures' but unless DD ends up in charge I will not set foot back in that kitchen!
Decided. They may even go under. Things are pretty grim (due more to mismanagement than recession IMHO) Not sure either of us want to be associated with a sinking ship. We are all having trouble getting paid from week to week!!!

This morning that Chinese blessing keeps coming back to me "May you live in uninteresting times!"

  • Oh Katie, have a big hug from me. It sounds like your DD is being completely messed around. I really hope she gets it sorted sooner rather than later.

And Fuddle, I wish I could give you a big hug and and a magic carpet to help with the journey to school. You are doing your absolute best with the new start and throwing yourself into it. You *are* doing great, ok maybe it needs some fine tuning, but you will get there.

I think I have sustained one of life's more bizarre OS injuries: I've strained my middle finger doing crochet :o (stop sniggering!) I think I must be holding the hook wrong, but I was so keen to get started when my lovely new wool arrived. Three cheers for Kemps wool shop, who not only stock yummy wool at not too scary prices, but who have a brilliant delivery service. Ordered late on Monday evening and it turned up first thing yesterday morning.

Oh well, onwards and upwards (or something) have a good day all.

Morning All, how is everyone? Woke up quite sniffly this morning. Bit chilly but I have wrapped up as don't want to be running my heating all day. I have lit some candles in the livingroom where I'm settled to take the chill off the room.

Plan for today is job apps, phone the agency, pick up prescription, browse round the CS in the village (this isn't the one I volunteer in), make the marmalade and do some tarot.

  • Morning Toughies, hugs to all who have need of them and all who don't as well, just because I can.

KATIE - Don't make a decision in haste and anger, try if you can to let your feelings level off before doing anything terminal. Easy for me to say I know but, wait until you have at least talked to management before you walk away. It might not be how it appears on the surface. Good Luck!!!

FUDDLE lovie, I couldn't come up with any workable ideas last night so I ran your transport problem past He Who Knows this morning as he has a sensible view on lifes little foibles. He recokns that a bus season ticket would probably be most use to you as you would then have it to use during the day, I think useage is unlimited and that would allow you to get to the shops, or doctor, or to a job without the expense and initial outlay of getting and running a car that you don't really want anyway. The school or education department might have a hardship fund, it's worth asking and might be able to make a contribution towards the girls tickets. Does that help? I work on the if you ask and they say no, you are no worse off than if you didn't ask principle. Chin up littlie, you'll sort it out.

KEZLOU yes, I think the gnocchi would be fine as a side, but you would need to add some butter ot a sauce of some kind as they would be quite bland otherwise.

Keep cheered all and have as good a day as you can, Cheers :yn xxx.
