missmucksmum I am so sorry to read what an awful time you are having,
Welcome to the thread, you will find it an enormous support, everyone here is lovely and even if they can't help you in real life, will gladly offer you a shoulder to cry on, a laugh when you need it and genuinely meant and very useful advice on the practicalities of getting through the bad times to the other side. Good luck x

  • hanks katieowl and kidcat, he has never truelly hit rock bottom as he has always had my support, I think his sister is helping him out he always seems to land on his feet and has always had someone to look after him. Will never have him back drinking just hope he does have a light bulb moment and gets sorted think rehab would be the only way he could do it. It just upsets me after everything ive give up/done for him he can leave me when I have nothing but him and the children. With regards to the family my feelings are still quite raw as I would feel like I was grovelling my way back to them and cant face the 'I told you so's' also my mother got social services involved saying we were unfit parents and tried to have them taken off us (my mother had just lost her husband, was severely depressed) it was awful to have social services talk to my children/look at the house, talk to the school (I was Head of the PTA handed my notice in as felt the teachers now looked at me differently) report came back fine from social services and we are not under their care. So even though he had a drink problem the kids had a good life due to me working double hard to ensure that. Im not blinkered and think that his alcoholism hasnt/wont affect them, but he was a good dad when he was here which is what makes it harder x

  • Welcome missmucksmum and big hugs. It sounds like you are definitely having a tough time of it, but well done you for ensuring the kids are as sorted as they can be. Unfortunately when people become alcoholics they become incredibly selfish and, as other people have said, only they can really take responsibility for themselves and sort themselves out. It's just horrible for the families and friends who have to deal with the fall-out.

Take care of yourself, and stick around here for support, chat and, sometimes, complete silliness.

That all looks OK, I can't see anything that might be a problem. It's kind of in between both of ours, and I tend to only use our little point and shoot. I've the same amount of pixies on mine, but it's less optical zoom. Guess it depends on what you want to use it for. We bought a very expensive Digital SLR but it's a beast to carry about, and 99% of my best pictures have been taken with the little Panasonic Lumix. You're not getting a massive amount off for it being a refurb, but the guarantees look sound.

Does anyone understand camera speak? I won a kindle fire which I have sold to a friend and I would like to use the money to buy a camera, but have no idea what I am doing, I found a deal for one yesterday but dont know enough to say if its a good camera or not.
I never spend this kind of money on me at all, and really dont want to waste it.

I have a Nikon Coolpix that fits in my handbag and a Nikon P80. I use the little Coolpix more often 'cos its easy to carry around (as already posted by Katieowl)
If its any help the higher the pixels the sharper the image & the zoom lens gives you the ability to photo distances - but you need a steady hand!

    Good Luck

Did anyone else pick up on the BBC News article about how much food is wasted in the world? Apparently the world food production for a year is 4 billion tons and the stat was that 2 billion tons of that are not used. The supermarket chains reject any that are not perfect or don't conform to set standards and often a whole crop is rejected which the producer just leaves in the ground to rot. The other stat that was really incredible is that 80% of the world rice crop is lost due to inefficient harvesting, Wow, that is mega waste and should be addressed!!! I assume I am not alone in not really caring what shape my apple is as long as it tastes good?

Yes I was just looking at a link to that...shocking beyond belief. Especially given so many are starving. Like you say stuff don't taste ugly!

Missmucksmum so sorry to hear about what you are going through. Do you have other family besides your mum who would be easier to approach? I think you can hold your head high that you did everything to support him but you need to think of your children now. Would it help them if you re-established contact with your family?
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
