Pops - I have kindle on my phone and when I swapped phones I just added the new phone to my account and all my stuff was there.
I wish fireworks were banned completely never mind displays only. What exactly is the point of it, we always end up having fireworks in the garden (tiny ones, no banging and no shrieking - takes my dad ages finding the right ones for DS8) but if no-one did it we wouldnt have to.
Here there is one display in the whole town and that serves the neighbouring town too, there is a tiny road into the area and no parking, in order to park you need to walk 2-3 miles, the fireworks run till 8pm so add on a long walk it would easily be 10pm getting home. Thats assuming that we could even manage it, neither of the boys cope with crowds so it would just be a nightmare.
When the eldest two were younger the local rugby club did a lovely display, it was easy to get to, plenty of places within ten minutes walk to park, and you could stand way back away from crowds and still see - but then it got so expensive to insure that they couldnt afford it any more. When we lived in a different town there were loads of schools doing displays as fundraisers for PTA, so we had a good choice.
Has anyone heard from PAH?0 -

I've not seen pah for a little while on here but she was on Facebook on Friday so at least we know she's ok
Just crawled into bed with dressing gown on and slippers, the heating is still on low I'm afraid but it needs it. Too cold. I'm goin to go down and get my wheat bag for bed. The girls have hot water bottles but I don't. School boy error that one!0 -
Well, my slow cooked casserole from Friday stretched until tonight...ok it meant the meals were the same but who cares...and I have to admit that though I ate it almost 2 hours ago and I still feel warm inside...and am quite cosy in bed tonight...so there is probably a lot of truth in the tips put out about eating something warm and drinking plenty of hot drinks. Still got my thermals, socks, hat, gloves and scarf on though.
We can also learn some new skills like GQ has mentioned regarding the Banana Loaves whatever age we are. I am still learning and like trying something new. Even if I only do it once just to say that I can!

Just popping out of hiding. Re: fireworks. My dear departed MIL had dementia and every year she would ring us up saying someone was banging on her windows, and it took ages to settle her down. I wish they were banned from sale to the general public too.Do you mean to say Father Christmas isn't real??!!

There is a lovely film about this with Charles Brosnan as Francis P Church, if you can get it! I bought my copy from the USA a few years ago, and it's one of my favourite Christmas films.2025 Fashion on the ration

Banana bread - yum! Before I embarked on my OS journey and started to learn to do more than heat a ready meal (only started to cook properly in my early 30s with DH's encouragement) the only thing I baked was banana bread and I still love making and eating it now. Friends request it and one friend now regularly makes her own.
DS1 has given me a new nickname 'Supercook' as he says I am great at cooking now but also pointed out that I didn't used to be! Kids are so honest aren't they? Well mine are anyways. He also keeps saying I spend too much time doing chores but when he gets asked to do little chores, he moans and groans. I really ought to get them both to do more, keep meaning to but its such hard work getting past all the moaning! DS1 wants paying for chores but I'm not sure that's the right way to go. They get pocket money if they have behaved well enough during the week but I think they should do chores as part of being a family 'team' member. Anyway I guess its up to me to change things, I don't want them growing up to think women should do everything and not knowing how to look after themselves.
Agree with the fireworks - I wish were display only. Partly for the poor pets but also wild animals and the awful injuries that come from the wrong people getting hold of them or accidents. When we got back home Sat night, we saw a really startled fox near a block of garages opposite us. We felt so sorry for it and the boys were very upset that the fox couldn't be inside like our cats were. Our cats used to be petrified when they were younger but now they are old boys at 12 they seem fine but like to stay close to us. I would be too frightened to do our own tbh so would only every go to a display. The one we went to raises a lot of money for local charities but I did wonder on the impact on the environment.
Feel a little sad my two are back to school tomorrow but they have worn me out and I have so much to do that it's just as well really. DH asked me what I have 'on' tomorrow. I replied "stock taking food, meal planning, food shopping, washing, starting on cleaning and tidying of whole house (place is a complete tip), baking bread and maybe muffins." And that's without getting the kids off to school, picking them up and looking after all their needs, evening meal, sorting cats, the list goes on and that's just the basics, not the extras, I have so many extra tasks I can't even think about them atm
Goodness gracious unto me, better go to bed, nearly midnight
night all, tomorrow is another day... and by all accounts nearly here!
