Just aslong as you'll use it, my granny got one about 6 months ago, spent £1600 and has only used it in her garden the day she got it, now she has a wheel chair like i said she'll never use it, thankfully she can afford it, but it's onlya good investment if you need it and will use it.

Fair point, it could be handy for shopping trips locally and avoid paying taxi fares if my condition gets worse. I do try to walk all but slowly and if it's a really bad day struggle or stay indoors. If I stay on the town I can just about manage via a taxi, they charge approx £3 just to travel two or three streets so one journey can cost approx £6. And a return journey on a bus can cost approx £5.

If you spend say £500 which seems cheap but you wouldn't use it in winter assuming you go to town once a week, and would use it 9 months of the year, thats £216, so it would take 2 years for it to pay for itself, before you take into account electric, and when buying it my granny was advised to get insurance if she intended to drive it in town incase a child ran out infront of her or she drove over someones toe ect which was £12 a month (this was a seperate company so it wasn't like the person who sold it to her was trying to rip her off, this alone is around half the price of your taxi's) Thats also assuming nothing happens to it, brand new ones come with great warranties (think hers was 5 years) where as a used one might not. If you need it and use it and it will encourange you to go out and socialise more then great it's worth every penny, if it's just for shopping you need to make an informed decision and it may not really be worth it.

If it snowed tomorrow i'd be worried aswell but not because we'd starve but because i'd have to drive in it, if the worst comes to the worst you could prob shop online for basic's

If your need shampoo/bubble bath try homebargains i got my kids batman shampoo a couple of weeks ago, a huge bottle for 89p they had lots of others aswell, maybe try ebay for a bundle of hair accessories aswell.

We don't bother with stockings, we did but then last year we didn't have anywhere to hang them, they didn't miss them and still got plenty they get selection boxes from everyone, and socks and mil has hats and gloves for them wich is all i would have bought anyway other than a few cheapy toys that would have broken by new year.

Its a maxi micro in purple.

co-op chemist has some cheap bubblebaths

sadly homebargains few miles away and would have to drive.

slowly putting plan for next foodshop im sure will get it all done just pain being paid so late.Have to be very careful between now and next payday.

Think will spend next 2weeks being quite basic and frugal with meals.
soup and pudding that kind of thing.

we should be ok as we been careful so glad we staggered the present buying but find xmas lovley but stressful every year.
Every year I think next year be better.

Must stop watching news far to bleak and depressing.

We just had the conversation at work about pay day, it's always the last Friday of each month, so this year it's 28th, and had 3 people so far asking if we can pay them early on 21st! I can't think of anything more disruptive to the whole finances thing as trying to make the Dec pay packet last all over Christmas and then all of Jan .... or is it me?

Hope all those making plans to get out and about make it there and back safely.

We are not doing Christmas presents between us, or for sister and BIL. That said we decided to treat ourselves to some H0tel Ch0c0late things instead, small is beautiful. Did small presents for rest of family already and that as they say is that - nothing more. Doglet will get a special chewy bone (from his usual stock but possibly with a wrapper on it for giggles).
    Start info Dec11
    H@lifax [STRIKE]£13813.45[/STRIKE] paid Sep14 paid 23 months early :T
    Mortgage [STRIKE]£206400[/STRIKE] £199750 Mortgage £112500
    B@rclays £[STRIKE]25000[/STRIKE] paid 4 years 5 months early. S@ntander £[STRIKE]9300[/STRIKE] paid 2 years 2 months early

When I was little, we got stockings, actually long boot socks which became my Dad's work socks. After my second brother was born we started getting a Christmas carrier bag left on the bottom of our beds. I remember being told that Santa thought socks were old fashioned and he'd decided to modernise. A couple of years later Dad was bemoaning the fact that he'd forgotten to buy new winter work socks that year.
I remember the socks always contained whole nuts in the toes - but the nut cracker were downstairs (forbidden territory on Christmas Day until everyone was up) the heel was always an orange, there would always be a small torch and a few satsumas. I can't remember what else.
Thank you for prompting some rather pleasant memories.

White stuff still here, well it's a mixture of ice and snow so a lethal combination. Coming home from Aldi's and my little chat with mcculloch(I won't use your name as we are rightly being careful unless you say otherwise);)it was a biting wind so it seems as though we're in for a few days of it...

We had a real sharpe frost last night at _4:eek:........Then it snowed on top of that, so it was a winter wonderland this morning, its still -1 now, and the snow is laying on the fields and shed roofs , its too cold to thaw.........

We have a flake or two falling right now, the sky is grey..........

Ive had the heating on since 5.30 this morn and its still on, its too cold not to have heat, our health is more important ...I did get plenty of coal in the summer, so we have a good store in, plus ive paid extra on the gas and elec DD all summer, so at least we can afford the heating on, im well prepared, we get winter every year , so we do know its coming...........

We have cut back again this year on christmas, and mainly doing cash as gifts, that way I dont have to spend ages shopping in the cold, just as long as we have plenty of food and heat , thats all that matters to us.........

Budget was terrible yesterday , all doom and gloom for low wage earners and benefit claimants, so unfair, just how we all manage ,espeically hard for under 25 s on low wages and rent and ct to pay and poor !!!!!!s cant get any help housing benefit, ive gotr some young people I know in this real situation , not knowing if they will be able to keep going, and may have to move back in with their mum and dad...............Sheila....
