Kittie thank you for that reminder. Thurs met office suggests we have southerly winds of 20mph and gusts of 35mph in the afternoon. The winds now are 26mph so i'll prepare for worse winds than today to be on the safe side. Thank you0

It's probably not a good idea to post on the tougher thread about benefit receiving/slashing or what people think might happen in the future. It's far too much an emotive subject and I suspect should be kept to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139 this part of the forum.
It's tough now, we're all dealing with now... every day is different for each and every one of us. One day up another one down. We've all real hurdles to jump just to get through life. Thinking about what might happen in the future or what might stop doesn't help anyone. We have to live in here and now.
I'm not going to or say any more...I just thought for many on here the important bit of information for anyone was how certain benefits are being phased out, I just gave it as general information nothing else.
Here's a question...I'm going through the Argos catalogue to try and work out prices of goods for insurance...I am looking for what I would call a double bed(I'm using the one Mum had now)but I cannot see any called a double bed...is a divan the same or different?"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Fuddle:- You are right it is tougher now. We save on an As*a card for Christmas and have done our 'Christmas shop' this morning. We were horrified at how much less we got this year compared to last year for the amount on our card and that's not counting the 'fresh' stuff. Still, it's done now. We do it early because we hate the crowds that will inevitably develop in a couple of weeks time. It's a 'saving our sanity' thing. :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0

Sorry full of questions today...if I have to buy a bed during the insurance period but haven't it at the minute do I add that into the equation now or add it after buying it? Obviously, I could not claim on a bed I don't have but could once I buy one but I hope I never have to...

Aren't people stroppy when they do the christmas food shop. It's not a pleasant sight by any means. We dread doing ours, infact this year I'm going to walk to Tesc0 the Monday we move as soon as DH takes the girls to school (he's taking them in the car to the school that are in now for the last week, so they can have their christmas activities with their friends) I'll have no school runs to do... wahooo!0

Many insurance sites have fixed amounts they will insure, so you choose their £8k package or 16K package or 32K package. That's what Byatt is trying to say to you, use the sites and then it can be tailored to you without you having to account for everything.
What does the HA cover you for? Are the charges £8.50 per month extra or £8.50 per year extra? You have to think too that there's only you. You only need 1 bed, one wardrobe etc0 -
Popperwell - if there was a disaster & you lost your belongings & household furniture & stuff you would need to buy new in most cases - insurance companies do not do 'second hand'. So you need to cover for the replacement value not the value of the item you already have. Don't forget - if you underestimate the ins.co will reduce their compensation accordingly.
Just go through the house room by room & cost what's in there - add it all up & add 10pct (bu**erance factor) & you should come out with a realistic sumSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I fell over the cat this morning :mad: He needs to see a bloomin shrink as he has issues - everytime one of us moves towards the kitchen he leaps after us. I had the halogen oven in my hands at the time (my precious...) luckily I leaned on the worksurface as I fell and deposited it neatly on its base. However my ankle wasnt as lucky,( Im double jointed as they used to call it) so my foot went 45 degrees to my leg. Im definately not taking my boot off till theres a responsible adult here - that could take a while:rotfl:
DS is off today and my normally trouble free child is driving me dippy, along with his father. Am trying valiantly to sort out several important things and they keep mithering me
Am reasonably pleased with other events, got my £25 M&S voucher and voucher for my free 16" flat screen tv from my life insurance company. I cashed in my life insurance when the DWP cocked our life up and Oh just took out a small new insurance for me. We got one of the tv's when we extended his insurance last year and its happily in the living room and I love it. DD keeps teasing me about its size, saying it will ruin my eyes but I have never liked big tellys and it was free. The new one will be going in OH's room as we are setting the room up for him so its more comfy as he spends more and more time in his bed. A dear friend has offered to wire everything up so he can use the pc up there and the kids are getting him a kindle after Christmas - when they will be cheaper - as he is having trouble holding big books.
Sq, Fuddle and Jem I am so pleased to see you rising above your challenges in life with families, friends and co-workers and doing your best for you own little families. I accepted long ago that whilst my brother loves me he is s*d all use at being a brother. he sits in his big house on his fancy estate mainly protected from hardship with a spendaholic wife who watches soaps and shops all day long. He rang me recently to moan about Mum and got put firmly in his place. He actually rang to give me support as he had just found out about DGS's autism but quickly forgot about it and wander off into his problems with Mum - I felt like saying 'suck it up sonny, you moved her near you after Dad died and yet I have to drive 45 mile round trip to do everything for her'She is 82 and Im blessed to still have her and the good relationship we finally worked out and yes she is acerbic and trying but she' my Mum.)
Oh God DS is now singing - or the cats trapped in a revolving door :rotfl: Note to self -move my office from under his bedroom!Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
I'm not buying anything special as such food wise, as freezer is now packed to the gunnels with YS stuff, and when I buy sweets, I end up eating them all.
Before Xmas. Then I'm sick to the back teeth of them
I'm working Xmas day so don't need a load of stuff as me and DD and she will probably get her own treats. I am really trying not to be sucked in this time and have foods that will waste. It's wise to do the shop early Meme as you are less inclined to go into blind panic thinking venison pate is a must have...or is that just me?:rotfl:
I may go YS shopping Xmas eve however and try and time it perfectly!
Actually, that is exactly what I do as well. I have both freezers full of bargains I have picked up (including lobsters in Lidl today). I will be making my own cakes and biscuits gluten free from the offers I bought in the baking section. That just leaves any game I want for dinner and some salmon for New Year. We already have wine/drinks in for anyone visiting (I don't drink and my husband only has a drink on a night out). I buy tons of fruit and veg each week along with nuts so that will be the usual purchases.
Just the stocks of chocolate to buy in for Christmas then, nothing unusual there. They sell it off cheap just before Christmas here as its only a small family/friends celebration. We don't buy each other presents, we each have what we want from the sales that start in January and have great fun going shopping together to find what we want.:T“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
It's not too wet now as I'm more to the eat of the country but I'm high up and the wind is something else. BBC showing a right mess up in Comrie, kids stuck in school with no dinners getting through and some parents can't get in to pick them up. Aberfoyle main rd flooded and that's the only road in and out, Rest & Be Thankful landslip again, that's 5 times in 5 years and adds a long long detour for locals. This year has really been a terrible one for wet. Gawd if this carries on into winter we'll still be shovelling in July!0
