Re last minute xmas eve bargains, I'm not risking what's left of my sanity by trying to get into that rugby scrum for bargains - happy to pay full price and have it delivered to my doorstep weeks in advance :)

  • Byatt - £4 a month for contents insurance???????? Mine is £41.56 a month!:mad::mad::mad: I know i have a four bedroom house but the real bugbear for the insurance companies isnt even the fact that its built of concrete panels. No. Its because i havae a flat roof! I need to start looking around again i think.
Christmas bargains in the week before christmas can stay in the shop! The most i am doing is venturing to bluewater to visit santa and eat churros. We will admire the lights and then go home.

Oh no she said the C word. Churros. I can't stop eating them, I keep making 'trial' batches for our christmas market!

  • Please can I pick everybody's brains again on my favourite problem: pastry!

I'm still having problems rolling it out - as soon as I start rolling I get cracks at the edge that start spreading inwards so I end up rolling the pastry out far bigger than I need to take account of the cracks. And nothing I do seems to enable me to stick the cracks back together. (Is this making any sense?) Does that mean I'm not adding enough water to my pastry? I've looked at lots of youtube videos etc of pastry and they all seem to have this perfect lump of pastry that rolls out into a perfect circle and I just can't get that.

Cakes and biscuits I can do, pastry just seems to be beyond me!

I can't believe Rest And Be Thankful has had another landslip. Well I can, the sheer scale of it, but that road is needed. Mar, Windy Wilson, is that just weather for Scotland? Pretty spot on last night for you all.

Churro's I don't know what they are? Summat nice? :D

You got your insurance sorted now popperwell Don't worry about it. Home insurance is the only insurance that is difficult for us that are financially labelled B. I do need to sort ours as it up for renewal end of December. We pay £17 per month and that doesn't even include accidental cover. I know. Going to get that cover this next time. I heard that Coop give half decent home insurance quotes.

Think you are right - maybe you need to add a little more water. Do you chill your pastry for a while? Sometimes that helps. Failing that you can always fall back on the standby of Jul Rol (that's what I use as I can't make decent pastry anyway:p )

Do you chill the pastry 7ww? It's easier to roll out when chilled but that tends to be for keeping the butter from melting. It does sound like yours is a tad too dry. For the record, I love baking but hate pastry making with a passion!
