I've been looking at the criteria for the rental credit check. It says to let if discharged bankrupt (us) and have been working for 12+ months. DH has only worked for the company for 9 months so now worried that even though he's never not had a job we'll struggle with that. Also there's one default still not been marked as settled on his file (mine is clear) that I've been trying to get marked. It should have been done by the bank when the bankruptcy hit but they don't seem to change it without a chase.

But, I now know the eligible criteria and if this goes belly up this time I know that all is not lost, that we can try again in the spring with 12 months behind him and hopefully that default removed. There's hope, and we've still got the LL on side of course. So even if we can't move this time I am calm in the knowledge that my new life will happen next year :)

Byatt, you need sticks and firelighters to get it going, and then smokeless eggs. Put the eggs in first around the sides, then make a wee tower of sticks in the middle with more eggs on top (but not a lot, just one shovel full). It takes a wee while to get really hot with eggs but then stays hot for ages.
I buy kettles from camping shops.

Byatt there is a kettle in this sale
    http://thecampingoutlet.co.uk/collections/1-sale/products/deluxe-steel-whistling-kettle
But there's postage on top of that so probably only worth it if you want some of the other bits in the sale.

Fuddle if DH has never not worked he'll have been employed the previous 3 months somewhere else, doesn't that count?

Byatt - Coal or 'Eggs' as Mardy says are good 'cos they stay in a long time. If you can get hold of some wood (NOT Chipboard or anything with varnish etc on it) It burns more quickly but gives out lots more heat. Since having ours on I've cooked casseroles, made drop scones & heated soup - so hopefully you can get a lot more from your stove than just heat & be even more MSE. :)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

It's getting a bit chilly up here in Scotland. I still have the window wide open all day mind, but indoors I've had to put on a jumper instead of walking around in a T-shirt. Still, no reason at all to put the heating on, just a waste of money IMO.

You would think so wouldn't you? He's been in employment non stop for 20 years. The only details he was asked for was his current employer so I'm having a wobble.

I bet I have this hanging over me over the weekend

Fuddle - CHILL if you are that stressed just give the agency a quick ring now and ask them how it is going, may be a prod will give them the impetus to clear something before the weekend will have you your answer.

I have done these references for peeps at work and it seems to make no never mind as long as it's not currently in a probationary period. I also get these done as I am LL - again the probationary period is the big red flag, after that as long as there is nothing in the rest of it to give cause for concern then all is fine. I have asked for bigger deposits or guarantors but I have a younger rental market so have learned likely to be more issues with dirty / breakages and so on come move out / on time.
