Hi FUDDLE - No not Switzerland, but Sweden. My grandma on my dads side was swedish and I'd always wanted to visit but the opportunity had never arisen. Then last year DD1 was getting interested in family trees and said lets go and see the country at least. So we did, we took a little train in 1 and 2 day stages right from the bottom the country in Stockholm to the very top, over the arctic circle to Gellavare, which is a copper mining town.. It was amazing, I'd come home, and that is just how it felt. It explained everything about me to me if that makes sense. Looking at swedish faces was like looking in a mirror and all our food likes appear to be swedish too. An amazing experience. Then this summer we had a few days on the other side of the country in Gothenburg which is where Grandma came from (well 30k away) which was very different but delightful. Lucky us, I'd love to go again, perhaps we will one day. Good news about the LL, I'm keeping everything crossed for you little one, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Nuatha - thank you, we have done some research in our group today and had come to that conclusion based on other local council web sites however our local council website is at odds with that advice and with the Direct Gov site, I assume therefore that our council is in the wrong which will hopefully help at later stages.
We had a really good meeting today and I was thrilled to discover we have been granted a start up grant and been invited to apply for a further small grant which is usually only available to groups that have been running for six months, but they have told us to apply in a week or two and we will get it
My idea to open a dads monthly evening meet has been greetes with excitement too so all in all was a good day.
I attempted to make contact with the manager if yesterdays caller but he will not meet with me at all - I have to put it in writing! I wasnt planning on making it a formal complaint yet but I will now have no option - he may live to regret that one
Fuddle - can you call the agent tomorrow and set your mind at ease? It does sound hopeful for you though
Byatt your stove looks wonderful am green with envy
We have a bug sweeping though the furries, it started with alpha cat two days ago being generally not well and high temp, moved onto dementia cat who was incredibly sick yesterday, high temps, vomitting etc, hit Lazy Labby Dog this morning, cue more vomitting and has this evening passed to snarly cat. Thankfully its a 24 hr thing but oh my its horrid. Just hope Bunny doesnt get it - although she never seems to catch these things so she is probably safe.0 -
Byatt, that is indeed a lovely stove. Wonder if you can roast chestnuts on it... my ex in laws used to do that on theirs. As regards 'what happens after' I find a good (and actually scientifically accurate) explanation, if like me, you aren't religious, is to say that 'we go back to the universe'. As we, or the matter we are made from, in fact does!
As an athiest, that's my take on it too, I also find it comforting. We're all made of the same stuff as stars, the song was accurate in that! And the love you have for people and they for you is the thing you get to keep, as long as you live.
SmileyT, they cheat over here, I've never had anything bad arrive in a brown envelope, so they're not as easy to spot!
2tonsils, my hubby gets nosebleeds when the weather is very dry, as does his grandfather apparently. Could that have been the case? His grandfather uses a saline nasal spray, but we've never tried that since it's generally ridiculously humid here.
I'm having a day at home today. May make some Christmas cards since I haven't made any inroads to that yet. Hubby is heading off to the office today and is supposed to be talking about a payrise, so I have fingers crossed. If it goes well we'll be going out for dinner! Chances are it wouldn't kick in until the new year, which would mean we'd be starting 2013 as we mean to go on. If we can get the health and the wealth, then the happiness tends to be a given!
Fuddle, you have the house, I'm convinced. If I had a house to rent, I'd rent it to you.
Much love to everyone xxSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Prudence: Thanks for the offer of the card table and the blow-up bed, I may well take you up on that. We have now been given a date of Dec 6th. It's all the arrangements that have to be made, unpicked and remade, unpicked again and re-remade......... Other Vicars have to be drafted in to take weddings etc, services have to be covered and then re-organised every time the date is changed etc. etc. Bedlam.off to bed now. Goodnight owls.

Quick post to share some GOOD news. Amazon offer me stuff for free to review, a max of 4 items a month.
Usually it's books or software or something fairly off the wall technically (heated shoe insoles come to mind).
I woke with the thought this morning that it would be lovely to be offered a slow cooker tonight.. I gave mine to DD, as she has a family of 4. With all the talk of SC's on here I've missed it..
I was offered a very nice Breville slow cooker this evening. Yes, I took it!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Hey mcculloch, how canny?! That's what I call a result. Enjoy
I went to bed last night with indigestion. Most probably the twinks
I awoke an hour ago in a sweat. Doesn't seem any reason for it
In a bit of a pickle as the girls are staging a revolt. They don't like mince and gravy and casseroles  That's me struggling with meal ideas. I'm not one for kids eat 1 thing while we eat something else so what I make has to be suitable for the girls (except on chilli nights).
So that's what I'm off to do now. Going to try work out a menu plan that is heavily slow cooker based but not mince and gravy  wish me luck!0 -
Spag bol and (mild) chilli, pasta and meatballs Fuddle.
Sorry that wasn't a very good sentence was it?
Children in pajamas for Children in Need today. and I MUST list stuff on ebay. ugh.0 -
How about sausage casseroles, chunky veg ones, chicken (I buy thighs for this and then take the bones out before serving).
If you want to keep using mince then meatloaf it, burger it, meatball it, shove it in pastry, cottage pie it, bolognaise it, lasagne it.
I did a sausage and mixed bean casserole type thing in the SC the other day, small chunks of onion, sausages chopped into three and browned off then I added a tin of butter beans, tin of kidney beans, two tins of baked beans and a bit of extra water (needed to thicken the sauce afterwards with some corn flour) a shake of paprika and some herbs and it was gorgeous. I used 8 sausages (we'd have two each if having them with chips/mash etc) but with all the beans bulking it out I managed to freeze 2 portions down). I just served it in a bowl with a home made roll to dunk in the sauce.
Hugs to all in need today. I slept like a log last night and have a full on day today as my parents are coming. Went to France yesterday, had a lovely time and my house now smells distinctly cheesy. I was shocked at how much the basics are in the supermarkets over there now. Saw lots of empty shops and abandoned industrial units around Calais too, it was looking a bit like a ghost town.
Right, onwards, upwards and sideways, I've got to make pastry to make some pies for lunch, Hoover the house through, get DH in and out the shower and get organised."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
