Mrs LW--The mince was for Pooky, not me, but that mince cookbook sounds like a great resource. Do you have a title and author? I can get OH to look out for it in the CS.
Funnily enough, i came up with tacos as well. If you don't have shells, you can also use wraps, or put it on pasta layered with cheese, salad, tomatoes etc. Sometimes the same gets layered on tortilla chips. I've seen low carbers do it on lettuce leaves.
I think we're having the twice baked potatoes for dinner. We've lots of bits of nice cheese in the fridge that OHs parents gave us when they brought round a lovely pic nic supper the first night we moved in. They'll really spice up the spuds and I fancy a bit of melted cheese tonight. Alternatively, what about some HM beef burgers?
Nuatha--great suggestions, I will definitely do all of them. Building bridges is exactly what I'm going for! I really truly love what I do, and wouldn't trade it, but the pressure can be awful at times.
Fuddle--I like the sound of that blog, will be checking it out on my lunch break!
Well, half a page to go before lunch, which can't come soon enough--lots of leftovers to choose from and I'm hungry already!
In all seriousness, thanks everyone I feel much, much better already--just a few ideas have made me feel a bit more in control of the situation.0 -
Sorry SQ, I had no idea I would offend by my comment and had I realised I would offend then I really wouldn't have typed it.0

FPK sorry I realised I'd got the wrong name and have changed it - the book is just called 'MINCE' by Mitzie Wilson and is very useful for those days when mincey inspiration just won't come on its own!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

7_week_wonder wrote: »You've probably thought of this already but: are there any other travel grants from your University? We have some small ones tucked away that are quite hard to find but will certainly help towards the cost of travel etc. Are there any "Societies" you could join? For instance if the conference is partly sponsored by the "Institute of Molecular Chemists" (I made that one up - I have no idea what field you are in) then there is sometimes an offer to become a student member of the institute which gets you a discount on the conference fees. And usually, the discount is worth more than the year's membership fees. Any chance of getting a discount by applying to be a helper at the conference (e.g. running around with microphone for audience questions in some of the conference sessions?) Sorry if you've already thought of those, but I know what it's like! Good luck
Great ideas again, 7week. Added to the list! I'm in politics, by the way (although I don't dare give more details as I've been warned about the dangers of googling. I try to keep my personal and professional online lives seperate). The conference is partially devoted to the ways in which politics excludes certain voices.. which is part of why it gets me so
Nonetheless, some excellent suggestions. It is a fairly small conference and not affiliated with any professional bodies, which is part of why funding for it is such an issue, but I shall check at the Uni and see if there is any funding outside my department. Unfortunately I've used up my entitlement to travel grants. I used those for the biggest and most expensive conferences I needed to attend. I'm very near the end so I'm just trying to make it to the end! As nuatha pointed out--there is so much money that just never gets used, if I look hard enough I'm bound to find something! Furthermore, I had not thought of asking to be a helper! I've done it before at local conferences don't know why it didn't occur to me!0 -

Thanks fuddle - I wasn't offended personally (as I knew you didn't mean it to offend) but others in my boat might be and wouldn't say so. It's no problem at all and forgotten as soon as I have typed this.
take care

No worries Mrs. LW..and title of book duly noted! OH has just texted to say he has passed his exam--just as I was finishing up morning work so will wait for him to get home and have lunch together before he disappears for the last of his preparations for tomorrows. Got much further this morning than yesterday. Must be the sunshine!0

Well done Mr FPk.
I have typed out 2 long responses and lost them, MSE doesn't like me today.
The rabbits are at the vets being speyed so I am trying not to imagine what might be happening to the poor little mites.
I'm sorry I've forgotten virtually everything that I wanted to say now but hugs to all that need them0
