No written permission to do the work just a verbal agreement to say we can redecorate. If it comes to pictures before and after though - I'm laughing. It's ten times better than when we moved in.0

Yes I'm going to be doing three flavours for Xmas, Vanilla, Choccie and Rum and Rasin. Not sure how I'm going to pack it yet, my normal packaging is in brown kitchen paper tied with string with a little chi-chi label tucked under. I picked up some white noodle boxes and was going to come up with a way to use those, even if I pack the stuff in cellophane first.
I have a whole load of kilner jars I bought when Julian Graves went bust that have proven to have a really bad airtight seal- grrr - any suggestions for what I can flog in those???
Kate
Make a Christmas Cake in a jar - actually bake it in the Kilner Jar and decorate it. I saw it in one of the Christmas magazines out on the shelves now. Obviously take off the rubber seal!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Kittie, so its not just me that wages war on germs after anyone has been ill, I have not heard of anyone else doing it before. I can tell OH now that Im not as crazy as he thought
Fuddle, just because the rats are living under your decking doesnt mean you attracted them, they could well have been fattening themselves up at someone else house and your garden was handy for making their bedroom. Pigeon coops, aviaries and rabbit hutches are common restaurants for vermin.
Katie owl its a good job you arent nearby where I live or OH would be at your best customer. i do hope you sell lots and lots for Christmas
Am on automatic pilot today as we had DGS and he didnt sleep to well but he did make me laugh myself silly and was giving free kisses out so he got away with it :rotfl: When you are eating a butty and find a small person eating it from the other end at the same time you cannot be mad at them. Am going to sit and read a rare treat - Sunday paper - then throw some lunch together. OH is sleeping so I have peace and quiet for a while. Hugs to all ginnyClearing the junk to travel light

Morning all
We found a hedghog yesterday all curled up into a ball on our drive (shared drive) in danger of being squashed. We moved it onto the border into a deep pile of leaves. DD checked the internet to see what we could feed it. We left it a saucer of water and another with chopped sultanas ad chedder. I did think it must have bee old or ill for us to find it like that in the middle of the day. The poor thing has died over night. I wonder if we should have brought it in overenight but I am always worried about handing wild animals and stressing them.
Have just seen the John Lewis snowman advert and it brought a smile to my face.
Doing a YS lamb joint in the SC today. The only time we have lamb is if it is YS. DD has requested it done in the SC as it is her favourite, she has also requested tapioca pudding. I love a goodmilk pudding but will be experimenting with soya milk so that i can have some as well. When I was a kid my dad collected the milk churns from the farms. He used to skim some of the unpasturised cream off the top of the milk tanks to use at home. My mum made the best milk puddings ever. It is a shame I am not very tolerant to dairy now.
Have a good day
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Fuddle, well done on the house! Contact the LL about the rats x
Kittie, glad you're getting better now x
PIC, I hope your cat turns up soon. Our cat died in September. She was only 6. We've got another one from cats protection now.
I put my heating on. I try and keep it off till Oct 1st. Frankly, I think people are stupid if they're prepared to make themselves ill by not heating up their houses properly. I do wear layers though and my H bought me some really lovely warm socks from sports direct, of all places, a few weeks ago.
Take care all

Morning Toughies, lovely and sunny here, washing on the line, He who knows on the allotment, Docky on the sofa!!!!!!
KITTIE - So glad that you are on the mend, your knowledge is amazing and so useful. Thank you for sharing it with us, will help so much if we do become poorly this winter. Hope you both continue on your path to full fitness.
KIDCAT - Hello!!!!!!
FUDDLE - I've never had a dishwasher before either, until we put in the new kitchen and were given one that was being replaced by a friend (it is a 10 year old Miele). I wait to run it until it is totally full, that sometimes takes 3 days as there are only the two of us. I rinse things in a pan/bowl (whatever I've been using) of cold water before putting them in the D/W as it sticks fast if you don't. Use salt and rinse aid and a 'good' brand dishwasher tablet, the cheaper ones don't give the same result. I only buy when they are on offer so that helps keep the price down. If you are going to put bait down, even under the decking make sure Alfie can't get to it, as he will eat it if he can (it is attractive to dogs too) and that will make him very ill and cost lots at the vet. If we have to bait, and occasionally we do as we have 4 compost heaps and a neighbour who puts out all leftovers for the birds, including meat!!!!! He who knows puts the bait under the shed and blocks most of the entrance with old bricks so the rats can get in but the bricks are too heavy for the dog to shift, and check daily to make sure the bait hasn't been moved to where Alfie can reach it. That should keep him safe and get rid of the ratties. With your new kitchen being on the small side, is there enough room to have a smallish trolley/table in the centre to store things like the Halogen oven on? or room for a small, tall set of shelves/bookcase just at the back to hold equipment? that would keep your work surfaces clear for when you use anything electrical.
Have got some savoury mince simmering away in the slow cooker for making into lots of things in the week, it smells lovely. Have a good day everyone, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Go figure...it is more frosty outside but I am warmer indoors and quite cosy...so more money to spend on heaying when it gets really cold, having the food store has helped too as now my shoping trips are less frequent/costly.
Anyone want stocking fillers for Winter...Aldi's still have some Women's clothes remain from last week but today scarves, socks, jumpers, gloves and coats etc...for men.
Food wise the Super Six for sure but others have been reduced too(well in my branch they have)and some as low as 59p. Rather than 69p.
It may not be OS but I got a large bag of diced/sliced potato, carrot, leek and parsnip(supposedly for soup)but I'll use mine for stews/casseroles 89p and add other fresh veg. I thought that was quite a good buy.
It is still packed with customers and doing very well...
Hope the weather is nice where you are, here it is a nice sunny autumnal day.
I attended the Remembrance ceremony on the town but the church was too full to go into the service. The town clock had stopped so we did not hear the striking of the hour at 11am and when they tried to lower the flag, it became tangled in the branch of a nearby tree. Other wise it went smoothly and was very touching..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Fuddle I have the same problem as you re where I would put a halogen ( seriously thinking of buying one cos it seems so wasteful putting on the oven . Can't afford it just now so may go onto a Christmas wish list. I have thought if I'm not using the oven it could be stored there . What do others think?
Well the black dog is back big style - have been taking happy pills but feel like crying for no reason . Feel so silly .
ATM I think I'm being sent to Coventry by a group of friends. Was friendly with another girl who put a nasty comment on Facebook regarding one of the others dogs. I got caught in the middle . Now neither side are talking to me ( sounds just like being at school all over again) . I usually get my tripe and raw food from one of the group every month but last time they got it they FORGOT I'd need some . Heyho fortunately I managed to get a supply from elsewhere and it's better quality too so good came out of that one . This weekend there's a dog show and all parties will be there . Think I'll go show my dogs and leave. I can't be do e with the hassle . Mood isnt helping

Please tell me I'm not the only person to have read that as 'savoury mice simmering away in the slow cooker'! Mind you, the way things are going economically, we might all have to resort to that ....
I had a very late night last night. It was a friend's 50th birthday so we went out and I didn't get home until 2am:eek:. Thankfully I wasn't drinking alcohol (I had two ginger beers and a cup of tea :rotfl:, a really hardened drinker as you can tell!). So I am a bit zonked today.
Fuddle, congratulations on the house. The new kitchen looks lovely although obviously not designed for people who do real cooking!
PIC, I hope your cat comes home soon. Perhaps the leaflets will jog someone's memory for you. xx
Well, I am fuming on behalf of my neighbour. Her husband works in the building trade and at the moment employment is sporadic because of the recession. He managed to get a job a few weeks ago and has bust his guts putting in overtime (50+ hours/week) to try and earn as much money as he can to put into the family pot. Yesterday he was told that the company were going bankrupt. So not only does he no longer have a job, he isn't going to get paid for the 200 hours he's worked in the last four weeks :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:. Apparently there isn't a government scheme you can apply to for compensation in these cases. It's not the first time it has happened to him. I am so mad, I could cry for them. The company must have known they were going bankrupt, it doesn't just happen overnight, surely? So why have workers flogging their guts out and knowing you aren't going to pay them? I bet the fatcats at the top will have something stashed away somewhere and aren't worrying about eating, heating, and how to afford presents for their little girl this Christmas! Apparently there is a legal loophole that these companies exploit. The workers are taken on through an agency which means the company can say they don't have any rights to payment if the company goes bankrupt because they were not employees. I'm going to write to my MP asking for this loophole to be closed if possible.
