Thanks for that post Mrs L. It's been on my most-wanted list for years. I am a person who needs that solitude and quiet - a city would drive me insane in a day!

Sorry to hear about DS Kezlou. I seem to be hearing about lots of broken bones at the moment, including a friend's 84 yr old mum who broke her ankle, didn't go to hospital for 3 days cos she thought nothing was wrong, and now thinks she's going to get better in 2 weeks cos she's so much fitter than 'those elderly people'. She is too, it wouldn't surprise me if she does! Bless her.

Here's a way to get pasta for 15p in Tesc* at the moment:

great blog I've followed for years now - they moved from Edinburgh to Western Isles. Try to read at least some posts from the beginning. The latest post is a very sad post about the men killed in Afghanistan. Before that one, lots about island life, ots of photos of sea, sand, the family animals, wild life. Certainly makes me want to take up crofting.

  • Morning MAR hope you're feeling a bit better with the ME this week, it really is an outstandingly lovely place North Ronaldsay, one ship a week for supplies post etc, the island children board at school in the week and go home weekends, there are no wasps, just flies and gazillions of sheep. My brother says the Shetlands are just the same, when he was in his teens and we lived in Kent he used to ride his motor bike up to the top end of Scotland and then get the ferry across to see a girl he'd met and made friends with, he slept on the floor of her dads shop storeroom and went as often as he could. He says it is so friendly and beautiful, lovely folks and scenery to match, I'm determined to see for myself one day so I'll tell you about it if I get there. Wish me luck for tomorrow, we are going down to DD2 to meet her OHs parents for the first time as they are wanting to meet us before the wedding in August, I wonder what they'll make of us both? we'll see, I'm not too good in situations like that, I either cannot say a word that makes sense or I don't say anything at all - oh well, they will have to take us as they find us and if they don't like us, well they live a way away so we'll only come in contact very infrequently and hopefully that will be OK, think of us, Cheers Lyn xxx.

You've all been around haven't you :) noted with interest Lyn. Actually a 'to go to' list would be a very good idea.

    Champion about the rice :D

Mar we'll go up a66 as practically live ontop of it then the M74 I think, bypassing Glasgow, just and then onto Greenock for the Ferry. We like to go round Rest and Be Thankful but you never know with that road at the moment and its longer for auld Alfie.

Thank you wmf, off for a read :)

Lyn, I find it very bizarre how anyone could not like you as a person. They may not live the same life or make the same choices as you and He Who does but to judge somebody in that way makes for shallow people. If they judge, let 'em. Remember what I said about your aura? Beautiful ;)

Hi everyone, have had a busy morning. Woke up to some fence panels down again and loads of chicken wire in there places all tied up with odd bits n bobs and scraps of wood. Looks blooming bad now. Will go and find some fence prices, and I expect will have to pay for it to be replaced. I did speak to the council housing officer, and he said they will write to them on our behalf reminding them that they have no rights to attach anything to the fence.

Just got a quote for 2 panels and a post and it will be nearly £60. We will then have to fix it all, I am so so tired and cross.

All this talk of peace and quiet in the Scottish isles, I so wish I lived there. Just the chance of getting out of the rat race for a few months would be so lovely.

Right off to do some cleaning and then work :-) take care everyone x

  • Thanks FUDDLE, in the cold light of day we are decidedly alternative and I get the feeling they are very conventional, someone who knows us quite well says we are the people from 'The Good Life' and I'm not sure how they'll see us, ageing hippies is somewhere very close to the truth, harmless though and certainly benign to most things. We'll be OK I'm sure but first meetings are always a little un-natural with everyone on thier best behaviour and a little stilted, we're taking our boy with us, he's a wonderful ice breaker, you can't be uncheered with a Lurcher can you? Cheers Lyn xxx.

Hello all :) Firstly I am feeling much better today :)

Secondly had our 6 month electric statement through. We pay £50 a month but our total cost for 6 months was £660! So we owe £360 (but don't need to pay it as they estimate we'll use lots less in the summer).

We have no gas and so use warm air heating which is kind of storage based.

Do you mind me asking what you guys pay and if ours is alot? Lol

We pay about that for gas & elec combined in a 4 bed house with 4 people Peanut if you average throughout the year. I work from home though and do need the heating on all day sometimes when it's really cold.

    The Buggy is here!!!!!!!

After a very long almost 2 month wait since we ordered it, the buggy is finally here. It will be known hereafter as the Beautiful Beast as it is amazing (if a little on the large size......)

Will try and post a piccy when we get back but right now I am packing up ready to go and give the Beast a really good test this weekend. We have a Premier Inn booked up in Durham and we are off to Diggerland tomorrow as a birthday weekend for DS. Can't quite believe that little Master Stiltwalker will be 2 on Tuesday but there you go!
