I liked Enid Blyton but thought (and still do) that E. Nesbit was far better . I love her books0

Thank you so much for all your help re: headlice.
I had no idea that you could get treatment via prescription and something that I will keep in mind.
I have to say that I'm thrilled over the results of using the comb and conditioner. I've dislodged and removed so many eggs. Falsely so, I feel like I'm winning. The reality will be many more combs.
Molly DH is razor ing his head later (a bit OCD over cleanliness anyway) and will be checking mine for me later.
Lyn the empty carton as a float to learn to swim is such a good idea! I'm not sure she'll allow me to take a milk carton or the like but I will investigate0 -
Evening all.
My scalp is wanting to crawl off my skull and hide behind the couch, my normal reaction to talk of the dreaded nits. Never had them as a kid (or an adult) which is kind of surprising as I wore my hair long until I was 13. I do vividly recall a visit from Nitty Nora to my primary school class.
She did all 30-odd of us and didn't find nits but she did detect a scalp condition on one child, who was given a note to take home to her mother, that she should be taken to the doctor. She was cruelly-teased, poor lamb.
VJsMum, I couldn't imagine touching a slug, eww. Actually, I could imagine it and it'd result in Lady McBethian scenes of handwringing to get the slime off. All the perfumes of Arabia etc etc. Vile creatures.
Haven't seen many this year yet as the lottie is so parched it's amazing. I had to use a lump hammer to batter the down the stick which holds one end of the garden line. And I tried edging the paths with a spade. No dice, it's solid, had to get the mattock out.Very few things defy a mattock..............
Been at work today, more's the pity, as it's been another gorgeous day. May is such a lovely month. I love it when the seasons change so rapidly, I think May and October are my all-time favourites as they have so much happening.
Right, quick wander around the interweb and then another cuppa. Or another cuppa and a wander, more like.
Have a lovely evening and sending happy vibes to Monnagran on her hols. Hope she has lovely things to see, eat and drink.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Not sure I can make cakes cheaper than the newish shop that opened on the town "Grannie's Choice" and such a variety, ideal for a single like me.
But I will occasionally keep my hand in...I am as you know attempting to get the home made bread going again and I have all my supplies in. Today I decided to(should I use loaf tins)get some liners and found two shops that sell them(Wilkinsons and Grannie's Choice)£2 for twenty, £1 for fifteen respectively...so you can guess where I bought them.
I found twelve silicone muffin cases for £2 and later found they are the same size as cake cases so I'll use them for both but again paper ones are available at GG and they have loads of different sizes and fancy looking ones at good prices.
I know I shouldn't but found some good cookery books in the charity shop. One may encourage me to use my juicer or make up some healthy drinks, the other simarly may do the same for smoothies but I have one that tells me many more dishes I can cook in a slow cooker. It has 175 recipes.
570 step by step photo's but it also tells you what cuts of meat to buy, how to prepare it etc...same with fish, herbs and spices, vegetables and tells you how you can even cook cakes in a slow cooker. How to poach items etc...Also how to make various stocks and much more so I think it will be really useful.

hey fuddle, hope you don't mind me popping in here - my children have at times been plagued by nits. They don't care whether hair is clean or dirty and people can get them without having any itchiness at all.
talk to local pharmacist and they can recommend which solution is currently working in your area (as they can build up resistance to different types and chemists tend to stay on top of that info locally) then request that at the GPs if you can. In the meantime comb with nit comb day and night as it breaks the legs of the hatched ones and will remove some of the eggs which should keep the infestation at bay. keep their hair tied back so they don't cross infect each other/pick up more from other kids and don't worry about any eggs more than 2cm down the shaft of the hair or that are white - pharmacist told me these aren't live anymore.
I use a "nitty-gritty" long tined comb because it removes small lice and eggs. and lastly don't feel bad, it really is no reflection on parenting HTH.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Kidkat - hugs x hope your DH is ok. Will there be any payouts?
Fuddle - my girls had nits when they started school. The GP receptionist told me to use a solution of oil (any sort) around 100 mls and add 10 drops of eucalyptus oil and 5 drops of tea tree oil. Comb through the hair until its clarted, pile the hair up and cover with clingfilm for an hour and then comb through (pop a towel round their neck as its a messy job). Make sure you click/kill any lice you find, they'll probably already be dead as they oil smooothers them and stops them breathing. The eggs will comb out quite easily too. Then wash their hair 2/3 times with washing up liquid to disperse the oil. Add the eucalyptus and tea tree oil to their shampoo and check and repeat in a week if need be. It cleared both girls first time (I refused to use chemicals) and they didn't get them again."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Ah pops, it's finally finished then. I was so excited to hear of it being built but then I jumped ship. The locals will be thrilled
Lobbylud, thank youI've never had the dreaded things and stupidly underestimated the pesky things. I thought a quick chemical treatment and whoosh they'd be gone. Must look into the nitty gritty comb.
Once again I feel uninspired by a cook book. Mostly flaming posh food. Is like to find a 'grass roots' Italian cook book. I can't cool with squid, anchovy, sashimi tuna, 60ml cinzano. Ignore me, off on one. (Roll eyes smiley)
Edit: thanks pooky. Already adding tea tree oil but will look out for eucalyptus too. Chemical treatments cost a lot and this one I used previously hasn't seemed to have an effect anyway. Ill fox 'em locally with an OS remedy eh?0 -
Thanks Pooky - there will be some payouts but the sums are unknown, they appear to be making offers to specific people rather than a set formula IYSWIM. He is sure he will get a meeting and made an offer the question is how much the offer will be.
If its standard rates of one week for every year worked it will only be a couple of months pay which is a major worry but if its more like the amounts they paid the staff last time it will be a years salary which gives us chance to breath.:)0 -
If you want proper Italian cooking fuddle try Marcella Hazan... All my Italian friends use her books... Although there may well be squid and cinzano in some of her recipes as that's what the Italians eat :-) but her lasagne is fabulous!0

Scary times ahead then! Hope you find out soon, nothing worse than nail biting waiting.
I've heard of 3 redundancies through friends locally in the past couple of weeks, I can't believe how many companies seem to be going under now....I assume it's something to do with the end of the financial year."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
