It has been a dying duck for some years and when it was sold it was surprise it didn't go belly up then.

Same poor shoddy service as the other big name shed.

That said I have picked up a couple of items through it's Laskys and Kitchen Science internet offerings that were good deals - Microwave and some other small kitchen appliance. No different to any other internet seller in that regard.

Entering a Comet, it's always the same scenario

    - enter Comet
    - notice several sales advisors hanging around, not doing much
    - one of them clamps onto you..are you ok, sir? Yes, thanks I'm ok.
    - go to the shelves with product you're looking for
    - sales advisor: Is there anything in particular you're looking for, sir? ...No, just browsing, thanks...
    - see product, conclude it's suitable
    - go home
    - buy it on amazon, dabs, play or ebuyer.

THe only problem with that aproach is that when or if Currys join them you will have no where to see if the product was suitable.

I'm quite happy tp pay a bit extra if I get good service unfortunately you didn't get that very often in comet.

Maybe the time is coming whereby we dont have high street electrical stores as such, just big warehouses where many different manufacturers setup store to show/dem their items - you cant buy from them, just able to see??

It isn't so easy to con the gullible into their insurance/warranty packages online so that will be a benefit

My daughter wanted a pair of shoes recently . She visited a high street chain but the only size they had (+1 over) was way too big, in the style she wanted.

She came home ordered them online from the store, at a slightly lower price, via a voucher code, inclusive of delivery. Unfortunately the sixe down was too small, so of she went and returned them in store for a full refund. she could have returned them by a store collection facility.

So all in all the store missed the sale but the administrative overhead must have been higher than the cost let alone profit margin.

    Bonkers.

  • I don't think Comet are finished just yet, quite why the current crop could not turn it around is beyond me, but I recon someone could.

They are lucky as they are not on the High street, they are on retail parks, there is only one other major competitor on the parks thats(Currys).

Comet need to be a mixture of shops and net (clicks and mortar), as they say. but it's viable. Look at Currys and their new offering, the stores look fantastic and you pay for the services they offer be it reformatting a PC to setting up a printer etc and folk pay as they don't want the hassle or have the time. The other major change is instead of a bloke knowing little about everything they have guys in each dept who know what they are doing.

I'm not so sure. whenever I go into Comet it's empty. The amount of floor space is huge - it must cost a fortune to heat and light these places as well as pay staff to loiter?

One thing I've noticed on the last few visits is their laptops - most seem to have error messages on them ... ;-9

Some of the worst service I've ever received was from Comet recently. Good riddance.

surely can't be as bad as Currys/PC World, who have the worst product knowledge I've ever experienced.

And M&S and Tesco and Sainsburys and Next and Argos, obviously dependant on the park.

Many selling the very same stuff.
