Hi there

My daughter has an old Sony erricson which i think was originally on T Mobile, but I don't know if it was locked or not. (My dad gave it her years ago.) She only uses it to carry to school for emergency as she walks 2 miles . Now she's in 6th form she decided she'd maybe like a more up to date one purely to "look a bit better!" And then we can give her current one to our son to carry for emergency, as he also walks over 2 miles each way.
She has a virgin sim in the current phone with £4 credit on it and we have a further 4 virgin sims with £5 credit on them. As she will rarely use the phone, nor will my son, and these sims will last ages she'd rather be able to use them. I have seen a samsumg tocco lite on ebay fairly cheap but it is locked to T Mobile. Is it true that Virgin and T Mobile are sister companies and you can use Virgin sims in all T Mobile phones?
Thanks in advance.
DD

  • Apparently yes they do! Virgin piggy back on to T Mobile/Orange/whatever it's called this week.

If the phone is unlocked you can use any SIM you like in it.
If the other SIMs have been sitting unused in a drawer for months then you may find that the no. has been deleted and the credit lost though.
Virgin Phone is a virtual network running on the T-Mobile network.

Hi Firstly no the phone isn't unlocked, I did say above, it is locked! No, I have put all four sims into my DD's phone and I rang 789 and all state £5 credit!! That's great. Thanks very much. I object to putting money into the pockets of mobile phone companies, since they're the worst thing ever invented. I do recognise though that they are a handy thing for kids to carry for emergency. if only they were only used like that!
Thanks for your help both of you.

No, you said above that you 'don't know if it is locked or not'.
So if you put one of the SIMs into the phone in question, you'll immediately know if it's locked or not. If it is locked, a quick visit to your nearest market stall will get it unlocked, assuming it's an older model. Or you may be able to unlock it online for nothing, depending on make and model.

No, I said the phone MY DAUGHTER HAS NOW I don't know if it was locked or not when we got it. That took the virgin sims ok but I am unsure if it was originally locked when i did that.
That phone will be passed down to my son, and I am looking for a newer one for my daughter

So, as I said, I had already said the phone I am interested in is locked.

I do not want to buy one unless I can use my virgin sims in, it, hence the question!!! I am not prepared to pay more for it to be unlocked, so am not going to buy it and then "try sims in it!" LOL

  • To be fair it took me 60 seconds on google to find the answer. Would have saved all this aggravation. ;) You do seem a bit of a drama queen....

Virgin SIMS will work in T-Mobile phones but they will not work in Orange phones (unless phone is unlocked).

    Thank you scrounger.

I did google it, Millicent, but only found posts from 2011 which could be well out of date by now! Drama queen? Riiight!! Just don't like being told I have said something I haven't!
