I got caught by one a few months ago, 30 mile an hour limit close to a secondary school - however very wide roads and pavements and at 8pm it was very clear/quiet all around. Came over the brow of the hill just under 40 and it was right there (applied brake but they had me bang to rights) - was sure I was in for the course or points but didn't hear anything back.

Fingers crossed for you - good luck (assuming you are a sensible driver who has just made a one off bad judgement.)

If you do get collared and offered a Speead Awareness course, don't do what we did.

I was on one earlier in the year, in front of each chair was a blank name card, the idea is to write your name so they know who to pick on.

As a laugh we had, Hamilton, Button, Alonso, Schumacher and Vettel on ours.... they didn't find it as funny as we did.

Otherwise it is quite a good course to attend, it isn't about lecturing you all about being lunatics on the road, it is just to improve your highway code knowledge, something we should all be keeping up with.

I was sitting next to a bloke with a similar name to mine. We kept swapping cards. Took the guy ages to figure out what we were doing.

You should have been sent straight to court for the offence. You aren't any better than some toe rag who turns up late for court laughing at the whole system.

The course has NOTHING to do with being penalised for the offence, I did try to say that but your misjudged arrogance will simply not allow you to learn, you already are Judge Dread, authorised to take the word from no other.

The course is about enhancing general knowledge on the roads. The course should be compulsory for all drivers after a debateable number of years driving. Everyone (apart from you of course) has something to learn.

Off you go, back up to your lion king rock to keep watch over us all ensuring we are all safe from harm......... dooofus.

Whatever the merits of these particular courses - and I have heard they're OK - there will always be the sense that this is all being driven by profit rather than a safety motive, and they are targeting the wrong people.

I think they're fair game for having the mickey taken out of them.
