Having spoken to sky today and being told they dont offer static addresses I did tell her that I was very happy with my tv and telephone with them even my broadband is good lol. She did suggest we return to the free broadband so that I can keep my line rental.

If you keep broadband with Sky then you would then need to get a second line installed to get broadband from somebody who gives a static IP. You can not have 2 providers on one line.

  • Yes I would want a seperate line for me due to invoicing etc. It wouldnt be a problem having the second line as I have to set up in my bedroom for peace and quiet due to my nearly 2 yr old grandson having the run of the downstairs

Have found a great company that will provide me with a business line and the same calls package that I had with sky so am going to switch with them. They do a static ip address and the speed is quite good with unlimited downloads.

Just out of interest, who did you go to?
  • The only residential ISP I have found which offers static IP addresses is freedom2surf which folded into Tiscali and then Talktalk Business years ago. They were fantastic, they even allowed you to set your reverse DNS. You don't get that even with most business broadband providers!

I have BT Infinity business at my work place and we can have either 1, 5 or 10 static IP's I believe.

BE offer a (free) single static IP address on their Unlimited and Pro plans. (Multiple IPs are available for an additional charge on the Pro plan).

Technology is ADSL2+, bandwidth is unlimited and there is no throttling (port or protocol) on their network.

I am with Zen and have 8 IP addresses (no extra charge for those). I have complete freedom to set up the Reverse DNS as I wish through the standard user panel.

Zen aren't the cheapest (by a long way) but I went with them in the days when there was rampant port blocking/speed throttling by the main players. At least with Zen you got to download at the maximum your line/far end would accept on any port you liked. No throttling/blocking whatsoever. They are not an unlimited provider, I have a 200GB monthly limit which is ample for my needs.
