Static IP address

I am busy applying for a job working from home and if lucky to get the job which is almost certain as I can offer a second language I will need a static ip address. I have been informed that it can be set up without paying extra and without having to switch companies. I am at the moment with Sky and have all three packages with them. My question is does anyone have experience with this or is it better to go with a company that supplies it?
Goals are being met and new ones being set :T

Sky do not offer a static IP on any package
you can set a static ip on your computer and use that with something like http://www.no-ip.com/0 -
It doesn't matter what you do with the IP address on your PC, the external (WAN) address will still change. At a guess a static IP is needed by the company to allow a 'pinhole' entry point for the OP to access their network. NO-IP will not achieve that it only links a domain name to whatever IP you currently have.
You will need to change to an ADSL provider that can give you a static address. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
reboot your router a few times, and see if it changes http://www.ipchicken.com/

It is as a moderator and as I speak dutch it is one of the languages they require. I think they need a static address for safety reasons I cannot mention the name of the company but you can assume its very big.Goals are being met and new ones being set :T0

it may be static already, check it.
for any secure connection, they should be using a vpn, which does not require a static address.!!

Some ISPs that do static are Zen, Eclipse, ADSL24 but a good place to start is http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps.htmlThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The sky ones I've seen never (over a period of months) change!!

Unfortunately as it is a dynamic address on a very long lease it does not guarantee that it won't change. E.G. DHCP server replacement could cause a re-issue of ip addresses.
If the company want a static address it doesn't pay to work on the theory that it will never change. Odds on when it does change will be the worst possible time for the user (Murphy's Law)This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
