Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 30th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
I seem to be up at silly o'clock today
We need to do a few jobs today, dropping paperwork of at Drs, making hubby a chiropodist appt and then back to potter in the garden, sifting compost today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning all,
Very dull here today. It seems quite mild.
Hubby will be in bed all day as he has work tonight. I am dropping the girls off into town. So I may tidy up the back garden as long as it doesn't rain. Washing is on the airer. House is tidy.
Tea tonight is sausages, egg, chips and beans. Nice and easy. We had cottage pie yesterday and i managed to freezer two double portions.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Now getting light, light cloud and damp underfoot but not raining. DH up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, onion sauce, mash and veg, cheesecake and cream for those that had room. Tonight we will be having fish, chips/jacket pot, beans/veg. Back to work for me today, boys are going to mum and dads, dad has a few jobs he wants a hand with, so I will be dropping them off en route.
Had a nice day off yesterday, wasn't particularly productive but did get several little jobs done. We went to next town first thing, after I'd got to the petrol station for fuel and put my hand in my bag and realised I hadn't got my wallet that has all my bank cards/credit cards in it! Fortunately I'd got some cash so paid for the fuel with cash and then came home and I'd left it in my other handbag I used at the weekend. DS2 got new trainers, and they took some games back and have pre-ordered some new releases. We were back by just after 11am, so then did washing, drying and ironing etc, cleaned up in the kitchen and made some potato and leek soup from YS leeks. Had a nice letter yesterday that contained a cheque from my utilities supplier as I had a credit on my account and they re-assess your usage once a year and any credit over a certain amount they send back - whilst it's a nice surprise, they've never done this before and we're now going in to the coldest part of the year so would have liked to be in a credit situation - but as I pay money on to my account on a weekly basis I may well cash the cheque and then just put another lump sum on to the account.
Once I've got today out of the way, then just working until lunchtime tomorrow, then on days off until Monday, not away this weekend, so will get stuck in with the jobs etc.
Have a great day everyone x

Morning all, managing to keep on my self imposed clean up and declutter regime. Scary pics coming out of the USA, but the majority seem to be ok. Could do with getting out into the garden today if its dry. According to the weather forecast should be a dry day. Had naughty takeaway last night, so will prep some food for dinner so we don't slip up again!!
Friend sent me a pic of a shark in her back garden in New Jersey! She won't be wading to her neighbours anytime soon!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all - nice and bright here. Worked yesterday, and walked out of an external conference after 40 minutes because they didn't have enough chairs. Ridiculous - I can't stand for that long.
Finally after 11 weeks got a grovelly letter from the hospital re my botched treatment in intensive care following my surgery. They've admitted leaving me without any pain relief for hours while they went off to find equipment for the Fentanyl, denying me fluids, not monitoring me etc. Anyway, they've apologised and two separate medical teams are going to be retrained, so I'll accept that and leave it there; this was never about a compensation claim.
Working this afternoon - more craziness - but next week I should move to 4 x 6-hour days and continue until I'm back fulltime so hoorah. Dinner was pork chops but the Farmfoods chops dwindled to nothingness in the oven. We'll double up until they're gone and then shop elsewhere for meat; I'd rather pay more for better quality.

Be back later xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Off to work in one min but wanted to send a hug to Tiglath (((hug))) well done for pushing for the much needed change/training in the medical team.
(((hugs))) also to those who are feeling low, ill or anxious.
Hope that the lighter mornings are helping some.
Tea is some of T$sco pea and asparagus soup (in a carton) and then tuna and salad. v easy and not OS but am still shaking off that horrible cold that's going round.

Morning all I spoke via texts to DD in New York and she assured me that they are fine, if a bit stir crazy as they are stuck in their hotel but have enough food and the power is on at the moment. They are at the Hotel Pennsylvania on 34th & 8th so are quite a bit uptown from the worst of it. All the bridges have been closed from Manhattan so I'm not too sure when they will be able to get off the island to get home. They are due to fly out late Thursday night, but with all the dissruption who knows. When they were in Florida a couple of years ago ,and the hurricanes were on they managed to get shuttled to inland by bus away from the storm, and then transferred from there so if the bridges get opened then perhaps they will fly back via somewhere else. Its a bit of a worry though but her and her OH are sensible and won't take risks. She is quite good at giving me updates on what's happening out there. It looks really nasty especially around Atlantic City I was there a few years ago and its quite a nice place and spotlessly clean for the tourists.looks in a sorry state at the moment though.
Right I'm off to watch the t.v. and have some breakfast Take care everyone today is supposed to be a bit brighter
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all, sunny here but cold. Pretty much over the cold, so debating a gym visit today or tomorrow as my hip is letting me know it needs the physio exercises.
Got a call yesterday asking if I can attend a meeting this afternoon in the big city. As it's about something I care really deeply about I've altered my plans for today and am going. As the travel and meeting combined are going to take up most of the day and I've had to push something else into tomorrow to make way for it, my week is now a bit messed up workwise. I think that's the risk with 2 jobs, one of which is a bit prone to last minute demands. To be fair I could say 'No' to anything they ask of me without a problem, but because it's something I care about I'm not inclined to. That then means that the time i have allocated to my other job gets squeezed. Need to think this one through any suggestions gratefully received.
I'll take a sandwich to eat on the train and have defrosted a HM curry to eat when I get back as I'll be a bit tired to feel like cooking.
Did do some housework yesterday but no gardening, need to tidy up and 'bed down' for winter out there.
Desperately wanting to do some arty/crafty stuff.......so many ideas buzzing round my head and no time. It's very frsutrating. Knitted a cardigan and can't work out how to put it together! The front and collar are all one piece and I have reached the conclusion that I have misread the instructions and need to unpick it and reverse the armhole shapings! DAMN AND BLAST!
Feeling a bit of a failure at the moment...........
Good wishes to all who are suffering.'Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.' T S Eliot0
