What does the word 'staycation' mean to you?

I am working on something and it appears that people have different views about what this means.

May I ask, what do you perceive 'staycation' to mean, or to be about?

Thanks!

That you have a holiday at home, making day trips out to events/tourist attractions.

A holiday that doesn't require a passport. So if living in uk, you holiday there

If you are staying at home, then I personally class that as days out, not a vacation

This was also my original understanding of the term, but I've recently come across more and more people using it in the way described by flea72, meaning to go away for a holiday in some other part of the UK to the one you live in.

Thanks - there does seem to be conflicting views between these two suggestions!

Staycation = stay where you are = home.

Holiday in uk...resulting in rainy, windy, cold, overpriced waste of annual leave.

My take on a staycation is that you're on holiday from work but are stopping at home as opposed to going on an actual holiday.

I'm sorry SailorSam can't speak to you at the moment he's on staycation, but we'll pass your message onto him when he returns.

The OED appears to allow both definitions
