Orange mobile data shock bill - help!
i have just had a big shock. Orange have sent me an invoice for my contract, showing I have gone over my allowance of 750mb to a total of 2302mb! a total bill of £ 421
I have been using the iPhone normally as i have been for the last few years with no video. just email and a podcast occasionally. A normal monthly usage would be around 450 - 500mb.
I phoned orange yesterday as soon as I opened the invoice, they told me there were massive downloads on oct 11 during the afternoon (whilst I was out working). I think this has something to do with the phone updating to ios6, which i did around that time. there seems to be a lot of similar stories on the web attributing high mobile data to bugs in ios6.
Why did orange not tell me i had used my bundled data?
has anyone had any success in having orange remove these high charges?
if anyone could help it would be appreciated!

"iOS 6 software blamed for huge increase in use as iPhone keeps using 3G data even when on Wi-Fi, users say"
This is possibly is irrelevant for the OP's case who was 'out working' in the afternoon of a working day.
We'll just have to see what happens. The fact that a perceived problem connecting IOS6 and excessive data usage is in the public domain can't exactly hinder the OP's case.0 -
hi thanks for the comments. i just checked the "my orange" app (the last few times it did not work!)
since last monday (new billing period) it shows i have used 680 of my 800mb!
i phoned orange tech, who said i have used .2mb since last monday!??
advised to take to apple store for a check, but no appointments for over a week..
advised to restore iphone to make sure there are no corrupted applications..
( which i have started just now)
the first thing that happened was itunes said something like "there are new carrier settings - do you wamt to proceed?"0 -
That would just be to change the network display from Orange to EE.0

Hi Danncus, Orange seem to do a lot of things without telling the customer.
I've just had an unexpected large (for me) increase show on my most recent bill, seemingly, as it turns out, because they took my whole 'loyalty' data allowance off me 3 weeks ago (1 month to go til end of current contract) without telling me! Nice! I've ranted about it all on another thread.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*
*Could/should/would HAVE please!*

an update.
orange were going to do 2 things following Sundays call
1 get a manager to contact me
2 post a printout of the alleged data
they had done neither so i rang them
an aggressive "customer service" person was positive that i had used the phone for this data and it wasn't orange's problem. unless Apple could see a fault with the phone that's how it is. She said if the phone was an accessory and they were not liable for a malfunction such as this - I said they provided the phone, but she robustly repeated the same...
the direct debit is due on the 7th nov
what do I do now?
I rely on the mobile contact number, along with 2 landline numbers all managed by orange and routed to my phone for my small business.
thanks0
