  • Though id get a reaction from you with that post.

If they knew how to use voltage tester id say go that route but i imagine they dont. what I am offering them is a cheap easy way to find out if they have electric going to their socket. And also a non dangerous one.

To the op. The other option is to get spark out to sort it for you. You will not have a cooker between now and the time you can find one willing to come out for such a small job. Then if it does turn out to be the cooker you will not have a cooker until you have had that delivered and fitter.

The neon screwdrivers are made for a reason and personally i think this is a good time to use one

so your willing toput your lifein the hands of a cheap bit of crap made in taiwan on live electrics

    whos the daft one

im an electrician and theres a reason i spend money good money on approved voltage testers and make sure there properly looked after

    your just an idiot
  • brutus is correct these things are nearly as dangerious as the person that suggested you using them
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Love to know why MK are making a tool that is dangerous then?
  • go for something like this if you think the neon testers are not safe

much safer option, or just buy a cheap mulitmeter

they are not dangerious if they are working correctly however if the capacitor seperating you finger from the live power goes wrong you will have 240v shooting up your arm

  • that like saying a socket is dangerous and when asked why saying well if its broken and you touch the cable behind it you have 240v going up your arm.

anyway to the op hope you find a safe way of finding out if you have live at your cooker switch. If you have any doubt in your mind in how to test it which im sure you do after this post you are prob better off biting the bullet and getting a spark out
  • Thanks for the posts. Perhaps I may just bite the bullet and get a spark out. Probably ask a few friends see if they know anything.

    Thanks.
  • its a shame this post turned out how it did as its so easy to test to see if you have electrics at your cooker point but Id be thinking the same as you if I was in your position after reading this post.
  • to say they go out and pickupa neon tester and find that the live is there but the neutral is open circuit how are they goin test that with a neon death trap and they assume its the cooker and go out and buy a new cooker they are back at square 1

not only that its very dangerous to tell someone to test live when they dont have the experience
