BO11 LUX and BA11 BAG are out there somewhere.
My favorite one on the company stuff is MO55 COW, which we bought when opening our Moscow offices for about £5k. It's currently back on the market (although still on a company van) for £500k . We've also got E20 BAH (ЕРЕВАН/Yerevan), which was used for a large contest last year for work as a lead vehicle, in the city of Yerevan.
We're quite boring as a company; a lot of out older vehicles simply have TMC on them. We've personally got 6 CKC and 6 EDR on our cars (Both black Jags, one saloon, one estate), which are worth a little bit though
We have CKC 006 and EDR 006 on our Georgian cars (identical BMW's, one silver, one black.)

I don't believe there is a set size for a number plate, just the font and spacing.
However, I am willing to be proven wrong.
You can have nothing around the plate at all, and just a bit of white/yellow holding the plate together. My 406 passed 2 taxi tests like this in 2005 and 2006. They kept getting nicked, so I put the 'proper' plates back on it.

Pages 8 and 9 of this explain what the rules are:

Your friend/college called Laylah paid 2k for L16 LAH!?
Can you please pass on the message to her that I'm selling some magic beans?0 -
londonTiger wrote: »neither of these two plates comply with uk rules. both are smaller, at least the top on has its white space trimmed which makes it technically illegal
The top one as 11mm of white border so imho is legal, if it was in the uk. The bottom one isn't even in uk, again imho, so you're wrong on both lol0 -

Sarahg's link suggests that the standard only applies for plates fitted after Sep 2001 (new or replacement) and pre Jan 1973 cars can have them to their original standard. Can't see anything about them being vertical. I suspect that ANPR prefers a vertical plate though...I need to think of something new here...0 -

Its currently on an old BMW 530d, and it looks really good.
It's not my taste, partly as it's not my name, but it's a well-suited plate for her.

From what I can see it's not her name either?
Perhaps if she had L47 LAH I could just about see it (and you can convince yourself the 7 looked like a Y). Otherwise...
Well the magic beans offer is still available!0 -

From the The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, Part II, Regulation 6.
Fixing of front registration plates: vehicles registered on or after the relevant date
6.—(1) This regulation applies to vehicles, other than works trucks, road rollers and agricultural machines, first registered on or after the relevant date.
(2) Except as provided in paragraph (5), a registration plate must be fixed on the front of the vehicle in the manner required by paragraph (3).
(3) This paragraph requires the plate to be fixed—
(a)vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable,
(Paragraph 5 covers motorcycles)0 -
