The Remember Remember NSD November Challenge

Morning All. I've been MIA for a few days. Exhausted at work but I'm loving it. I'm still managing to take lunch every day and it's even getting healthier (except yesterday as there was LOADS of food for the Eid parties we were having) but I have fallen off the NSD wagon a bit. I've only managed one day this week so would like to declare NSD #3 Have a lovely weekend everyone TTFN x*2014 £365/365days - £52/£365* *20p Savers club #17 £12.00/£50*
March 2014 NSD 0/15 take lunch to work march 0/21

I have money aside for petrol... regular bills... and my current NSD pledge of £20.00/wk is for groceries primarily... I am doing the NOvember challenge (aiming for 25 NSD) so I have 5 spend days effectively and have put aside £10 per day as spends... which i can use for drinks with friends/dates/clothes/books etc...
Does anyone pay themselves a wage to spend on other things... or do people just see what's left at the end of the month and use that? Am never sure what is a 'reasonable' amount to spend... Have been saving and really getting into the debt clearing and now every penny am loathe to spend on anything but debts... That can't be healthy lol... Would welcome any advice...
We're all different as we all have our errrrrr shall I say weakness areas?
For NSDs:- Fuel - don't count for the reasons mentioned earlier
- Bills - don't count each individual d/debit etc but I do count payday as a spend day as this is the day I do all my money transferring (set amount to bills account & also to the various pots and pay cc bill etc)
- Other regular things - eg window cleaner & massage (medical reasons) and bus fares etc: I put money aside on payday (spend day) to cover things these so don't have to count each individual spend.
- Spends from pots eg pets stuff or car service etc - don't count as the money has already been put aside in their savings pot.
- Groceries - don't count my weekly shop (usually a Sat or Sun) but I do count trips into the local shop for x and y - this is one of my bad areas
and I can easily end up going in every day for something if I'm not careful!
My other treat is my Sky (basic) package which I gave up for years when paying back my big debts and promised I'd have back again when things were better - but this counts as my entertainment fund as I (seriously) never go out. A lot of this is down to where I live as a trip to the cinema etc would cost around £8 in fuel before even adding in things like tickets etc so just not affordable for me just now.
I don't have an allowance I pay myself and I am therefore really bad at buying things when I see them - impulse buying etc
I've just re-started doing the Weekly Spending Challenge which used to keep my focused on this and seeing how much money I really wasted .... hopefully it'll do the same again!
I'm going to set myself a budget of £10 this week for non-essential things
Sorry for the long post .... HTH - it's certainly re-focussed my mind on what I do need to tackle so thanks for askingGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

For me, spend days are days where I've made a conscious decision to go out and spend. So that includes basically everything that isn't a direct debit.
Doing the NSD challenge has definately made me a more savvy shopper. Today for instance, I am combining a big online shop for Christmas presents, with a list next to me. In the past I would have just bought things as I saw/thought of them, and probably ended up with more.
As today is therefore going to be a spend day, I'm going to go to the supermarket later this evening for bread and milk (I normally go on Sundays), and also see if Tesco have their 15p wrapping paper in stock this year.
And thus, everything is combined into one day, rather than spread over several. For me it just involves planning ahead.Because it's fun to have money!

Of course it is WantToBeSE. A lot of us do that to prevent us from having any shopping "urges":D later in the day - in fact I'm just about to do the same:)flubberyzing wrote: »For me, spend days are days where I've made a conscious decision to go out and spend. That's they way I do it as well flubberyzing, planning ahead is definitely the way to get lots of NSDs and it's really helped me to reduce my impulse (and usually unnecessary:o) spendsThe time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time
