I'm feeling so sorry for both you. You must have been so excited to organise this short trip and surprise your boyfriend, it must be so frustrating to not only lose the money, but the whole excitment associated with it. As for your boyfriend, he must feel so angry with himself and guilty to let you down.
It is no doubt one that you will laugh about later, but in the meantime, I hope you can put it behind you as soon as possible. You seem to be dealing with it admirably, so hope your boyfriend is too. When is your birthday? Maybe he can make it up by arranging something similar for your birthday and make sure he AND you have your passports available!0 -
My OH lost my passport (he was organising residency paperwork for me) and totally denied doing so - said he gave it back to me! I knew he didn't.
Two weeks later (after searching EVERYWHERE) he found it - in the scanner part of his printer!"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
Actually --- this was in occasion of his birthday but thankfully it wasn't a birthday surprise, I think I would have been more upset if that was the case, because I'd have been planning it secretly, savouring his surprise and that probably would have made it so much harder to give it up.
But thanks for the support and for telling me that I'm dealing with it admirablyI'm surprising myself to be honest, once I had a go at him for a whole day for packing the wrong charger for my camera on a holiday trip! I think maybe it's because it wasn't a big shocker but a slow realisation?
Anyway, my lesson learned: don't book flights without knowing where travel documents are, and consider extensive travel insurance!
His lesson to learn (letting him be for now, but will mention this after his birthday! :P): when he suspects a problem situation is ahead, he shouldn't dismiss it and think it'll somehow sort itself!

I think it's somewhere stupid like behind the freezer at our old flat. Or, at his parents' place, which is the only place he went to with the same holiday bag he had when the passport was last accounted for. His parents did check for us though!
At least there's no blaming 'cause we just can't remember when it was last seen!

Oh, I didn't answer to that. We moved without an estate agent and didn't even need to show any ID as we were recommended by prior tenants so it wasn't used then.Saving £10,000 in 2013: £4491.48/£10,0000 -
We've had two passport dramas in our house, first was hubbys boss booking him in for work abroad without checking hubbys passport was valid (hadnt worked away for ages) It had expired, so his work had to pay for a new one which is about twice the price when you get a same day appointment.
The other was when we moved house - due to go to Spain to work for 3 weeks and cant find passport. Cue us turning house upside down - eventually found it in a box in my teenage daughters bedroom; like others think it was used as ID and chucked in a handy box!Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
i would go if i could find a friend who wanted to go (and an extra flight wasn't too expensive). The hotel is paid for so its only an extra flight. And its only a long weekend, not a whole week.
(how did you book flights for him without giving his passport number online?)0 -
Oh, I did hope you might have found it in time.
Of course, you know it will turn up the minute everything's cancelled and it's too late to go, don't you?0
