landlord wants to come round and collect his mail

Instead of bothering the tenants, why not have a post office box?0
-
tell him to set up a redirection, it's a small cost but worth it, to not be pestering you.0

In that case I hope they have registered with HMRC as non-resident landlords, and have provided their tenant with a postal address in England/Wales for serving notices!
...
They certainly have. They could have a PO box I guess, they prob would if the tenant raised a complaint but the tenants seem quite happy to put the mail in a box provided which is collected every 6 weeks.
I'm not presuming to know why OP' s landlord doesn't change his address but just wanted to get across that not everyone is up to no good.0 -
It may be innocent, my inlaws rent out their fully paid off house and travel the world, when they come back they pick up their mail from the tenants. They have no forwarding address to redirect too.
Which could be breaching the legislation.
"An important aspect of Residential letting in England & Wales is the necessity to supply the tenant with an address for service of notices and for the reporting of defects and repairs etc.
Under the requirements of section 48 of the Landlord & Tenant Act 1987 rent is not lawfully due unless the tenant has been given, in writing, an address in England and Wales at which notices can be served ... Where the landlord resides abroad, then the landlord must supply an address for an agent in England & Wales."

They have provided an address for notice to be served too, it's just not their forwarding address for mail.0 -
You could always appear to be agreeing to his (unfair) expectations that HIS mail keeps coming to YOUR address
.....but the Post Office conveniently "loses" this important mail before it ever gets to YOUR address. If this happens once or twice - once to "everyday" mail and once to "important urgent" mail then I expect he will have to arrange for his mail to come to his own address in order to be able to keep better track of what the "Post Office" is doing.
Well...mail genuinely DOES get "lost" sometimes after all...0 -

Your in- laws could quite simply have paid for a PO box or, indeed, they could have had their mail redirected to *your* address. The fact that your in-laws and their Ts have agreed that the Ts *would* accept mail on their behalf is irrelevant: Ts are absolutely not obliged to agree to a similar imposition.0 -
I'm afraid you can't come and pick it up as I already posted it.
I would appreciate it if you would get your mail sent to your address from now on. I've been here 10 months and there really is no need for this to happen. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
