I admired a friends floor as it was always brilliant. He said that you get a spray bottle 1 part vinegar 10 parts water . Spray the floor and run a micrfibre mop over it. Remember to hoover floor first . :j

I have a lovely mop with long microfibre on one side for sweeping then short microfirbe on the other which I use damp to mop. I use method floor cleaner but when the bottle is empty I will fill with a vinegar and water mix and douse the floor with that.

I love the method floor cleaner too. It's not cheap ( about £4ish a bottle) but you can be quite frugal with it. I think it cleans well and I love the smell, it's sort of marzipanny/almondy and it makes the house smell wonderful.

We are getting there with the kitchen fitting, and the flooring should go in at the weekend. We are having engineered wood flooring throughout the downstairs-its a lacquered oak finish, and I was wondering what I should use for routine cleaning of it? I know I don't want to use a lot of water-and was planning on mainly just using a fluffy floor sweeper to clear up the dust, and then I have a hard floor tool for the dyson, but what should I use to mop it? (I love Method stuff, but their wood floor cleaner is a squirt on and mop one, so I reckon a bottle wouldn't last long!

    Any recommendations? Thanks :D

I have a double sided mop that has a microfibre sweeper one side for dusting then a short mf mop on the other that I just run under the tap,the wring til its just damp. I use the method stuff and a bottle lasts a fiar while for a once a week mop. I've run out now and did it yest with a squeeze of washing up liquid and water in the bottle and it look sjust the same!

Where did you get your mop? Sounds good :) (do you need a bucket to wring it out? I was kinda hoping to dispense with the mop bucket-takes up SO much space!)

no bucket - I got it from asda

The heads velco off and go thru the washer. I dampen it under the tap, wring by hand and velco it on, the sweeping one is used dry.

  • Maybe it's best to check with the manufacturer of your floor?

We have laminate and vinyl floors throughout and I have been using this Lakeland microfibre mop and bucket for the last year. It doesn't leave very much water on the floor at all and I'm really happy with it. You could just use water, but we add a small amount of Ecover's floor cleaner.

The manufacturer of the floor recommend a £85 care kit, so I was hoping to find a cheaper alternative :D
I have an ecloth mop, I suppose I could try that to begin with..
