Not sure this is the best place for this but wasnt sure where to post!

I have a wooden floor (its not solid wood - just the top layer is) that I cannot seem to get looking clean.

I have tried the spays for wooden floors using one of those fluffy duster type brooms and it just seems to smear them. Pleadge type liquid cleaners and a mop seem to make it dull looking.

Anyone got a good combination that works and makes their floor look both clean and shiny (but not in a slippery way!!)?

Stardrops is brilliant for everything just wring your mop out well first so you're not over wetting the floor. HTH

We now have real wood floors - I sweep with a dry microfibre mop and then I just use a damp microfibre mop. Seems to do the job, even though the floors on the direct route for the dogs when they come in from the garden. All muddy paw prints disappear like magic

Same for me, Stardrops and an old fashioned cloth mop, it always comes up clean and shiny.

Hi, can any one help, i have oak flooring that is an oiled finish not varnished. Although i sweep it i have a need (somesort of cleaning phobia) to give it a wash of some kind. I do swish it now and again with a slightly damp mop but woundered if anyone knew how they cleaned wooden floors in the "old days". There are cleaning fluids on the market that say for real wood floors but dont want to use them as i would rather use an os method. thanks ia

I have solid wood floors, and mop with a damp microfibre cloth - no cleaning products at all :D

I'll add this to the existing thread on this subject so that you can see other suggestions.

  • Hi everyone.
Was just wondering if anyone has any OS tips for cleaning a semi solid wooden floor. The floor is fairly scratched and dull. Any of the wooden floor cleaners in the shop dont seem to be any good and are really expensive- the ones you put in the mop bucket. Does anybody know of anything home made that you could rub on the floor and polish it off to disguise the scratches and give it a nice shine!
    Thankds

  • It might be worth getting some one in to do it - My husband works in cleaning and says that when a floor gets that bad it needs to be stripped and resealed.
It isn't always s expensive as it sounds - but get as many quotes as you can and check the company's credentials because there are a lot of cowboys out there.

In the meantime try stardrops diluted on a just damp mop and see if you can get some Kleer polish I don't know if they still do it though - or try rubbing in some linseed oil.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Klear polish brings our yucky brown tiles up lovely! I get it from asda for about £2. It say's it can be used on sealed wooden floors.

    HTH.
  • Hi i have wooden floors all over my house, on my solid ones i use a product made by HG for hardwood floors and on the laminate i use another of there products. They are around £5ish, days inbtw i use stardrops, cheap n very cheerful. If your fllors are that badly damaged i would get them resanded and varnished and treat them with the proper stuff. Everyone always comments on my floors as they still look brand new. Normal cleaners that say are for wood arent really as the strip the coating of them.
