vodafone contract

I am half way through my 2 year contract. I am about to get made redundant and will not be able to afford my contract. Vodafone say I must continue to pay the full £36 per month. If I cancel my direct debit at the bank will they bar my phone. The guy in my local vodafone shop basically told me to do this if I cant afford to pay

Yes they will and then they will chase you for the remaining amount of the contract after trashing your credit rating.....best if you agree a settlement figure and sell the phone towards paying the bill
It's not just about the money

I would phone up and explain your situation and see what they can do or go into the vodafone shop and haggle your socks off. Take whatever evidence you need. Just haggle :)

If worse comes to worst I suggest emailing one of the following

Waste of time and efforts - as proved by numerous stories here (ETA) - about similar cases.

How is that related to the OPs problem?

Vodafone do not make provisions for loss of income, it is still a valid contract.

You could consider trying to do a change of ownership of the contract where all responsibility for the repayments will be with a new owner. This will be subject to the new owner passing Vodafone's credit check criteria.

There is also the option of selling your phone and putting the proceeds towards paying off part of the contract.

If you are going to have problems paying the bill, contact Collections on 191 and they will be able to set up a payment plan but this will be recorded on your credit file but not as bad as a default.

The OP is going to be having a problem paying his bill.

How is haggling and emailing the web relations team or the directors office going to help, what does the poster have to haggle for ?

    Hi goram1,

Thanks for making me aware of your concerns.

In the event that you're still in need of some assistance could you
email me with the relevant details via the link in our profile here to enable me to review matters further?

All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it will take you to the Contact us form on our website.

To ensure that it reaches us could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line and once our automated reply arrives update the thread with your email reference number and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?

    Hi grumbler,

As you'll appreciate we can never guarantee the outcome to any query we handle via forums such as MSE but customers can be assured that we'll help them as much as possible.

Naturally there will always be those instances where we're simply unable to provide the solution which the customer is looking for.

However, by the same token, there have been many cases where either myself of Heidi have been able to resolve matters for the customer to their satisfaction.

    Kind regards to you both.

I am the official company representative of Vodafone. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

Redundancy does not void your contract, only death or bankruptcy can do that.
They won't just bar your phone, they will trash your credit record for 6 years if you cancel your DD. Sell the handset, see if you can find someone to take over the contract, and buy a PAYG SIM.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I know this. What I said was not a general statement. I merely stated that you wouldn't be able to help in this particular case. When saying "numerous stories" I meant similar stories. I apologise for not making this clear.

And this is exactly the type of instance/case that you were never able to help with.
I'll be happy to stand corrected.
