Hello im a single mum with 2 children and i am self employed, I have a VW Bora which i have had for over 6years and i do love it its cheap to run the miles are fab parts are good and its pretti reliable. Now my problem is i do deliverys in my job and the boot space in a bora is not fab.
I cant buy a van as i cant afford to run two cars and my youngest is 5months so need something cosy'ish again not a van!
I also no this will sound wired to some but i dont want a saloon car my grandad drives one! Im only 31 so would like something smartish looking.
I dont need to use the 4x4 so to speak i wont be towing anything that i know of but wanted the space and sometimes i take my baby to work with me.
Feul is a big big thing i dont need anything more than a 2.0 so that should rule alot out.
I dont want to be paying £300+ a year road tax
So please give me kind nice advice if you have nothing nice to say please dont comment.
I work my backside of to keep my business running and only just earn min wage!
Oh and i dont have more than £6,000 after trading my own car in to to get this newer one.
My car tax at the min is £130 a year!
My feul is £54 a tank and last two weeks driving every day! quite a bit.
thanks any help xx
Oh and please dont geuss me a car please have knoledge on it as i cant afford to have a car fail me or have things go wrong every few months. xx

Doubt any 4x4 with more boot space than a bora will be more economical, using it in fwd mode will increase mpg but what's the point in having one? If you don't want something that will fail in a month stick with what you have. What about a hatchback?0

A bora you can not flaten seats properly a 4x4 car you can and i wouldnt have to bend very low down or in a 4x4 the boots higher up easyer access for my items im delivering. And there must be somthing out there i dont belive every person that owns one is spending countless cash out all the time maybe if your owning a 3.0 + sport engine and so forth, even if theres something out there with simular shape style but dosnt have the 4x4 is fine x0

The same could be said of many cross over vehicles and people carriers.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Maybe try something along the lines of a Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot partner/fiat doblo, based on a van, huge load area when you drop the seats, but is a 'car', get the diesel and it'll do loads to the gallon0

Octavia 4x4 is a decent car..0

A Vauxhall Zafira / Ford galaxy type car would seem to be ideal for you. You can take out / move seats around and they have cavernous space when everything is out or laid flat. Not too bad on MPG.0

4x4's that are cheap to run are few and far between, very little springs to mind except one very rare model, Mitsubishi Outlander years 2004 to 2006...petrol 2.4 4 cylingder but many came with LPG dual fuel system from new and it might be worth looking at one of those.
My wife's friend has had one (petrol only unfortunately) for years, it never misses a beat and will go anywhere.
If thats a bit unconventional for you then i have to agree with Buellguy above, Berlngo and its sisters and Doblo and Kangoo all being van based MPV's are robust enough for the sort of thing you have in mind, not great street cred if that matters but proper workhorses.0 -
I may be a bit out of date, but if you are making deliveries in your car then you must have adequate business insurance for this. Not sure about car tax.

You don't need a 4x4, you need a van based MPV.
Take a look at Citroen Berlingos on Autotrader. Skoda Roomster is also a good shout.0 -

Although there are other body styles, most BMWs are saloons!
The reliability of a vehicle will depend on how it was treated by previous owner(s) and luck as well as known faults of that particular model. So even a supposedly "reliable model" could have problems.
Agree with others on van based MPVs. SUVs are not known for their cheap running costs. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
