Don't know if anyone will reply, but it's worth a try!

Hi guys.

I'm new and have only posted a few times so far. Feel a bit outsider-ish as everyone seems to know one another!

I just have a question - not sure if this is the right place for it, but it's to help reduce my monthly spending so...here goes. Which is the best place to get your toiletries (shower gel, shampoo, kids bath stuff, etc) from? By me we have a Home Bargains, Wilkos and Poundland and they all sell named stuff for less, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me which was the cheapest?

Thanks for the help, I think I may be going to need more! :D

    :hello: Hi LLPJ and welcome!

I don't really know many other people on here but I post regardless :rotfl:

Personally I go to Wilko's or Savers, but it prob pays to shop around each time you do a shop and see. Poundland are good for some things, Wilko's aer good for others (and have offers regularly!). Don't have a Home Bargains round here.

Hi Jane, welcome to Debt Free Wannabe!

Don't be put off by everyone seeming to know everyone, people on here are very friendly and you'll soon get to know people - just jump in! :D

I like Wilkos personally, because they tend to have stocks of the same stuff all the time. The others might be cheaper, but don't always have things in stock, it's a bit more hit-and-miss. But that's mainly because I have sensitive skin, so don't like trying new brands in case I react badly to them.

Because of special offers etc, it does vary though - Asda were selling a 2-pack of Sure deoderants a few weeks ago that were much less than the Wilkos price, but generally they are cheaper in Wilkos. How about keeping a note of brands you have bought, and the price, and then you know straight away if you happen to spot a bargain.

    ooh I miss home bargains!

used to be great for named brand toiletries from time to time. They don't always have great stuff in, but when they do it can be a real bargain. I remember there being badedas shower gel in there at one point for 99p!

  • Good advice, thank you both. I will see how I get on.

Dont be afriad to try supermarkets own brands as well.

One thing I did for a while was to use bath foam as shower gel. Tescos bath creme is about 40p and lasts 10 times longer than a standard shower gel.

Also I like tescos own coconut shampoo & conduitioner there around the 50p mark as well and are perfefct for my hair.

Look in superdrug as well, they have a fair amount of clearnace these days & Ive got conditioners for 50p. Also I like thier own Aloe ( the white one) thats cheap and is good for hair.

Also try boots clearance ( google for them) you get some good stuff in there, we got deoderants for 50p 2x lux shower gels for a quid etc.

to me, I just buyt whatevers cheap, Im not too bothered about "names" theres some stuff Ive tried were not keen on, but we dont buy it again.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Haven't been into Home Bargains too much, the one by me is quite small. Is it just toiletries and food in there or do they do other stuff too?

If you sign up for Quidco, you can earn cashback on your purchases too. I think Quidco have a link to Boots and Superdrug.
  • Just thought (another thing! Sorry guys) my girls suffer from dry eczema, especially in the summer. I've got some Oilatum that I was given on prescription when my little one had to have some Hydrocortisone, but I don't want to buy it as it's quite expensive. What about cheap bath stuff for sensitive skin (don't care if it's own brand or not, as long as it's affordable!)

Asda have some baby bath for sensitive skin that's 99p - it's lovely too! It's in a white plastic bottle, that's sort of shaped like a baby's bum at the bottom lol.
