Morning all
Can I ask the parents of older kids a question please
Those of you that have put their kids through driving lessons. How many should I be expecting to have to pay for to get a 17 year old girl with zero driving experience through her test?
Taking her out in my own car is difficult as it is not your normal everyday car.
Thanks for any advice in advance :-)
This is one of the lessons I do with Y10's and above
On average it is 40 lessons which are on average £20 each
Theory test £31
Practical test £62 (day) £75 (eve&weekend)
Depends if they pass first time but you are looking around £1000.
Then when they have a car
Average costs
Car insurance £3500 p.y
2 tank fuel pm £100 = £1200
Car tax £100
MOT £40
Breakdown cover £40
Service £60
Couple of tyres £60
So around £5k to run the car in the first year which is £416 p.m:eek::eek:
Obviously these are only averages and some will be considerably less and others more;)If it wasn't for blinds it'd be curtains for all of us:dance:0 -
Hi everyone
I thought I was being very MSE this week by checking car insurance comparison sites and some that don't show on them but none were coming in under £200. Our renewable quote was for £160 or £186 if paying by DD so we thought paying in full would be better. Only to get over half a dozen quotes come through by email today at £20 cheaper
We never had our NCB protected either so I checked that out and got a price of £148 with NCB protected from our insurer's parent company. Normally, I'd have just figured I'd paid now and nothing else I can do but I phoned them up, told them I'd cancel and go elsewhere and now we have a £12 refund and protected NCB :j
So thank you from me because if it wasn't for reading this thread, I really wouldn't have bothered chasing up the money but you've gave me a bit of courage I never knew I had
tweets - you are so like me - have learnt sooo much by following this thread and found bargains, coupons and deals I would never have considered - also found people feeling just the same as me (lala) and don't feel quite so daft missing DD now!!!0 -

Thanks barbaraemmerson. I usually end up too distracted to read long threads so usually never stick with them but there's just something about the people here that have made me stick around and long may it continue.
I also phoned up Tosco Direct because my mum had bought stuff for her future great grandchild and I pointed out it was cheaper on another website so she cancelled the order but it wouldn't let her use the £10 code again. She's now getting £10 off another order she made :j and the bedding set she ordered (cute as can bee) is £33 on kiddicare and £54.95 @ Tosco for anyone interested. Many a mickle makes a muckle.0 -
