Keystone, we get at loggerheads about labour costs for trade.

What price a small company good joiner for the "day"?.

Not a trick question, a relative runs a small company, him, his brother and another, I'd like to compare the costs as yours always seem to be way above mine and these would be area trade charges, yes?

I'm derby/yorks border to make clear, may explain the £gap ?
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Having family from Yorkshire and Derbyshire going back hundreds of years, I know typical northern phrases such as "a fool and his money are soon parted", "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves", and "where there's muck there's brass". It does paint a distinct picture and suggests that northern 'folks' are not exactly the most financially extravagant of peoples. I heard it once said that a Yorkshireman is a Scotsman with the warmth and generosity squeezed out of him. :D

To be honest if you pay £10 per hour you are getting muppets. Painting and decorating is hard work, and does require care if done well. I imagine there are the bottom feeders that charge low, and the more classy ones who can charge good money. After all, someone has to do posh houses, National Trust properties etc.

What do you think a joiner should get for a days work?

No, she got a typically able 1
No she got a typical unable one who can't even hang wallpaper and when it gets too difficult just abandons and walks off the job. Thats absurd and you are correct thats well worth £ 10 an hour. Pay peanuts get monkeys.

    Cheers

Only because you have unrealistic expectations of what you should be paying. :D:D But I get your point.

Good question. I'll ask me mate who runs a joinery tomorrow. You don't mean what I would call a carpenter though do you. I know terminology changes around the country..

I think you are insulting monkeys. To be honest a bad trade is not worth having even if (s)he pays you. How much did the person mentioned earlier have to pay to buy new wallpaper? A colleague had to resand and repaint his woodwork after the 'pro' left. And sadly, price does not equate to quality. A colleague has his decorating done by someone who charges not much, and it is first rate. He is busy. No idea why he does not charge more.
