Once again Cy reveals his penchant for embracing the concept of slave labour. :D

Have previously always done it ourselves but combination of new job, new house, and multiple kids, meant there wasnt the time so had to get someone in. South Coast we paid £180 a room for all wood, walls, and ceilings, and we supplied the paint. All bedrooms were large doubles. Downstairs was a similar price. Had a few concerns/queries as we had always sugarsoaped and undercoated, but he used coated wipes, and painted straight on after that. As it turned out he was right as paint went on well, but needed 3 - 4 coats as no uc was used. He used far less paint than I used as I probably threw it at wall.
I would reccomend a fixed price per room and NOT a daily rate otherwise they could move in for weeks. If any painter cant tell you how long it will take to paint a room then dont hire them. It doesnt involve digging, adverse weather, or anything else. If you have the time do it yourself. I would.

I think you were beaten to it in post number 2. At least you didn't make a remark about the OP liking rough trade. Oops. And £10 an hour, what? Well, let's not go there.

Ah, beat me to it:D, didn't spot that as I was laughing at the title so much,

There was a similar post a few weeks ago, that time I got skinned for suggesting min wage, so I erred on the generous side;););)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

No, just highlighting that this is a money saving forum not a trade Gazette:D:D:D

I'm quite serious about that, given the nature that the forum is :money:based the best advice has to be the best way to get the jub done safely but cheaply.

But then you already know my stance:D:D:D

Move up North OP. You don't get skinned quite as readily, they have to try harder;);)

I'd say about £150 per day. Think for your size house it should take approx 4/5 days

you say no holes to fill in etc but not many walls can just be painted on and get a good result, and if they are really ready to just be painted it would be a lot cheaper to do it yourself as painting is the easy bit or you will be looking at around a £1000.

Of course its not but £ 10 per hour before overheads, insurances, van tools etc etc etc etc is barely minimum wage. Do you really value the services of a decent P&D that low?

    Oh I see you do.

Glad to see you differentiate between a rough and good decorator:D;)

On a serious note, and I'm going to offend a few here, do I value the services that low?, yes I do.

My daughter hired a pro decorator last year. Pulled out by personal recommendation

She bought paper at over £50 per role, (yes I have kids with expensive tastes but luckily well heeled partners)

I'm sorry but the results were hopeless, he gave up, charged them 0 and walked away.
    I mopped up.

    And I will hang myself here, but, again having risen to the bait;

"Are painters and decorators at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to home services?"
Yes, I'm afraid they are, and so they need to make a dam good job of what they do.

Anyway, coat on and taxi waiting but..........................

She made entirely the wrong decision then. Thats absolutely no justification to tar everybody with the same brush and I'm rather surprised your logic circuits allowed you to do it.

Anyway I asked you about valuing a decent P&D not a carp one. :p

No, she got a typically able 1
Max rate for a decent P&D guy would be £10 then, painters don't demand or receive great rates up here, that's why they are always available front door or back.
