and is it sent via RM, or through a DSA company and then passed onto RM?

are there many utility companies use RM direct?
how many people actually look at the top right corner of their mail to see who actually processed their mail 1st off?
  • when they wanted to put up the prices 30% (and suceeeded , lets all laugh at the industry watchdog) they would always choose their statistics like the amount of letters has gone down - aye but look how many parcels are being sent! Its now £5.15 just to stick a bar code on an overseas item - i have many non payers when they see the postage!

    notice or care.
the majority have no interest in RM until something affects them
then suddenly its the end of the world

    Sadly, this is inevitable.

There has been such a drop in the volume of mail sent that there simply isn't the money available to run a service of the quality that people took for granted 30 years ago.

I suspect things can only get worse as more and more communication is switched to email, phones, and the web.

We may well end up with a service that offers only one or two deliveries a week and only a single daily collection.

you're not the director are you!

If your talking eBay here - I think eBay's decision to set what they think is a fair postage price for some items should share the blame; not all books weigh the same do they?
I need to think of something new here...

we actually had meeting today about the business, they said packets were our best money maker, now i've not got much exec material in me, but if RM are forced to deliver a lot of letters at a loss then then they jack the other service prices up, even with the stamp increase they make little in profits compared to the turn over.
    i didn't understand it either?
but that's what they say and we must work even harder is what it boils down to me!
end of the day, gone is the morning post except for those who's homes are first on the duty, we work at ours up to 3:20pm,
when i 1st started 8 years ago i'd got home, had dinner,a doink, a pint and a kip by then, and in any order i chose :j

I was told the reason for afternoon deliveries was simple. Posties are (were) paid an additional rate for an early morning turn out - usually ready to process inbound mails at 0530am.

By switching this to 0730, it becomes a 'normal' day - no additional fees for any early starts. The result being the work gets done (but later) and the ending of the second delivery as well as Sunday collections was a must to make this work.

Now, with some deliveries finishing at 1700hrs, the pips are squeaking, and now other ways to save money are bring sought - it's not going to get any better.
