Royal Mail service - down the pan

Royal Mail has gone so downhill. Posties not delivering until late afternoon and dreadful delivery timeframes.

Just had an example: Small packet posted 1st class recorded delivery last Friday, just arrived today, Wednesday.

3 working days isn't that bad, 93% of first class mail is delivered in 1 working day so I guess your delivery was in the 7%.
Recorded has nothing to do with the speed obviously but maybe you knew that..

we can't deliver early if we don't start early?
many don't start work until 8am-ish, it takes 4-5 hrs to deliver once we get out on the street on a good day,
many have to leave whole streets in to go out on overtime, many are forced to work without a meal relief to make sure they finish in time for the school run, or pay others to pick their kids up,
of course this it what everyone wants so we are told

I haven't had too many problems with Royal Mail - had more issues with private delivery companies in fact!

    Sadly, this is inevitable.

There has been such a drop in the volume of mail sent that there simply isn't the money available to run a service of the quality that people took for granted 30 years ago.

I suspect things can only get worse as more and more communication is switched to email, phones, and the web.

We may well end up with a service that offers only one or two deliveries a week and only a single daily collection.

I don't dispute the amount of letters sent has gone down Azari. But mail volumes, I doubt it very much. You think of the amount of catalogues etc that are sent out constantly. When I was working for RM my bag was always full of these. Which indeed, makes it heavier for the posties.

I wouldn't mind a delivery every other day if bills that come doesn't have such as short amount of time to sort!!

Southern-Water does this. When the bill arrives it dated 3/4 days previous and gives you 7 days to pay. That means when I actually get the bill I only got 4/5 days to sort!!!

Parcels however needs to be delivered when they can though.

and is it sent via RM, or through a DSA company and then passed onto RM?
