I'm hoping that some of you out there might be able to give me some ideas (without too much technical jargon!!) as to what I have done wrong and how to correct my error. When I last opened up my notebook I received an error message stating that my system had recovered from a serious error, since then I am unable to connect to the internet using internet explorer. When I click on to it, it simply makes another shortcut on my desktop. I have tried using system restore but it will not restore to an earlier point. The system has allowed me to connect using firefox so I know that my connection is alright. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Worth a try would be to Download a new version of Internet explorer and see if that works for you. AlanEvery day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0

Try restoring your system to a point prior to the problem with system restore ?0

If installing the new InternetExplorer doesnt help, stick in the WindowsXP CD and click start>run... type in sfc /scannow and let it run. once its complete, remove the WindowsXP CD and restart your PC... see if that helps.0 -
Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou for all of your help. I've downloaded Internet explorer version 7 and I'm back in business. I was wondering however, skiddy2k where I would get a windowsXP CD from if I ever have problems again. I bought two notebooks from dell 18 months ago which both had XP preloaded and I never received a CD so is this something I can get in case I have any further problems. Many thanks0

Either that or there should be an option to create a recovery disk from your hard drive (hidden partition)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Is that hard to do as I'm not that efficient on the computer? Also would it not make a difference now that I have loaded other programmes on to the systems or would I need to completely remove everything? Many thanks.0 -

Never had to do it myself and I don't have a Dell so I'm sure someone who's actually done it can reply to this one but there's no need to get rid of anything and I'd have thought ther might be a Dell application on the laptop giving you the option to do it or it may need to be done from the boot up screen. If you can do it on a dell laptop I'd wait for someone with specific knowledge to post on this thread or you could phone Dell who should know and be able to tell you the steps to go through."She is quite the oddball. ok, thanks for your help!0 -
on the newer Dells there is a hidden Restore partiton on the hard disk
you hit CTRL F11 on boot up as the blue Dell logo come up across the top of your screen, this resets the PC/Laptop to the same settings as when it was first delivered to youEx forum ambassador
