At least you have managed it safely whereas many folk at the mere mention of asbestos run a mile and panic.

ACM's like your roof boards are perfectly safe if they are sealed and managed as you have done well done :T

Just stumbled across this thread and although a bit late for OP the soffit to the garage could have been asbestos insulating board.

Quite a hazardous material containing brown and sometimes blue asbestos and a completely different kettle of fish to asbestos cement. The fact that it is now sealed behind the plasterboard removes any immediate risk assuming no dust was disturbed during the work but is a potential death sentence for any unsuspecting tradesman or DIYer who may come along and drill through the plasterboard ceiling at a later date.

I always maintain that any suspected asbestos containing material should be tested so that you know exactly what you are dealing with, and at the very least clearly marked if it is sealed or covered so people following after you are given fair warning.

My comments were intended for anyone else who drags up this thread later and wasn't a pop at you. What's done is done.

Although it's worth bearing in mind if you ever have to work in the void above the soffit such as lifting the floorboards in the room above (if there is a room above) or running a new cable in the void, it would be aswell to assume for now that it is asbestos insulating boards and there is a potential high risk of disturbing/releasing fibres.

However it may turn out not to contain any asbestos at all. You cannot tell just by looking at it so whoever told you it was asbestos cannot be relied upon. I am always pleasantly surprised how many samples I have done come back negative.

    hi
the garage is single story , with a standard flat roof above (which incidentally just cose me £1500 to replace !)the plasterboard has been fixed directly to wooden batons which has been in turn fixed to the joist through the existing boards that were already there

That is interesting. For some reason I got it in my head that it was an integral garage, probably because you were underlining it with plasterboard. Not something you would usually do in a garage.

If it is just a single storey garage it is unlikely to be asbestos insulating board, apologies if I worried you unecessarily.
