Barely 5mins of Internet research would show this figure to be way way off......

Barely 5 minutes of actually being under both cars would actually show my figure to be pretty much spot on.

I'm guessing someone really likes their X-Type and doesn't like it to be compared to the Mondeo it shares most of it's parts bin with?

Love my X Type mate yep, and like I said already, the Mondeo is as good a platform as any.

The engine block is Ford, before being improved on by Jaguar engineers.

And at fear of repeating myself, go away, do a bit of research and get the figures right dude.

    Cheers.
  • I prefer the S type, a much more well-rounded car. Feels a million dollars over the X.

I picked my Rover 75 over the X type, didn't really think much of it.

We had a 75 1.8 Classic SE years ago, very nice Jaguar-y interior, lovely smooth ride on it too!

We are looking at buying an X - type. Ok, so running costs will not be cheap, but I already have a 3.1td 4x4. Those of you that drive them how do you find them? I believe they are based on a ford mondeo. I have a very good independent mechanic. I have been looking at 03 models with 60,000 miles. Will be chatting to mechanic on thursday when he services the 4x4, but would like as many opinions as poss! I assume they are reasonable to buy as not much of a market for large thirsty cars?!! I don't do massive milage but want something comfy and smart for the journey from south coast to midlands to visit family and to do our touring of the west country now and again. I would love a British marque too.

have you considered a Lexus LS400 - get it lpg converted and you have a very reliable economincal luxury cruiser

The X matured into a very decent car, but with so many 2.7D S-Types or XJs around, I wouldn't bother with one. (Though with the snow falling at the moment I'd love a 4x4 one today).

'British' (in a funny definition) marque.... I'd also consider the Rover 75.. really quite nice inside.

Reliability... I'd look at a Honda Accord Exec trim.....

not so nice inside as the Jag or Rover... but nice and reliable.

I looked at the Jag and ended up with a BMW 3 Series.... mostly because of the engine because I wanted something with a lot of grunt and good economy and the Jag diesels of the vintage (2005-2006) I could afford were a generation or two behind the BMW ones.

The newest just released Jag diesels seem to have caught up ....but not the price range I was looking at....

The interior is what really sold it, I've had a lot of Rovers over the years and felt the 75 actually had some effort put in.

That, and the X type I was looking at was £2,300 and my 75 was £536. :p

The S Type matured into a very nice car - best from the '03 model year cars onwards.

Nicest with the 3.0 v6, though the 2.7D and 2.5 petrol are probably easier sold and more desirable.

Indeed - I really do like them and would love one in the future.

Just about the only car that has a hope in hell of tearing me away from a V6 75 :rotfl:
